May 13, 1917, the day the world changed and no one noticed … An offer made, an offer ignored … such a small thing … as they say, “the devil’s in the details” …
May 13, 1917 was a bright sunshiny Sunday and the rocky hillsides were sprinkled with wildflowers when Lucia, Francisco and Jacinta saw the Mother of God, “more brilliant than the sun”, in Lucia’s words.
To Lucia’s questions, the Lady answered, “I am from Heaven”… “Come here for six consecutive months on the thirteenth day at this same hour. I will tell you later who I am and what I want. And I shall return here a seventh time.”
And then, the Virgin Mary made them an offer no true Catholic could refuse: “Do you want to offer yourselves to God to endure all the sufferings that He may choose to send you, as an act of reparation for the sins by which He is offended and as a supplication for the conversion of sinners?” Lucia promptly answered, “Yes! We want to!” “Then you are going to suffer a great deal, but the grace of God will be your comfort.”
The concept of reparative suffering is as old as Catholicism itself. It is at the heart of true Christianity, “take up thy cross and come, follow Me.” Contrast the children’s prompt acceptance with our modern reluctance to budge from our comfort zone and you will see why so few today are open to the message of Fatima.
As she spoke, the Lady spread her hands, shedding intense rays of light. Lucia recalled, “this light penetrated us to the heart and allowed us to see ourselves in God, who was the light”. Lucia related that they then fell to their knees as if moved by an interior impulse and began praying, “O Most Holy Trinity, I adore Thee; my God, my God, I love Thee in the Most Blessed Sacrament.” The beautiful Lady then told them, “Say the Rosary every day to bring peace to the world and the end of the war.” Lucia then described the Lady gradually ascending into Heaven towards the east, “surrounded by a most brilliant light”.
The oldest of the shepherd children of Fatima, Lucia explained the message of Fatima to Father Fuentes years later:
“Father, the Most Holy Virgin did not tell me that we are in the last times of the world, but She made me understand this for three reasons.
“The first reason is because She told me that the devil is in the mood for engaging in a decisive battle against the Virgin. And a decisive battle is the final battle where one side will be victorious and the other side will suffer defeat. Also, from now on we must choose sides. Either we are for God or we are for the devil. There is no other possibility.“
“The second reason is because She said to my cousins as well as to myself, that God is giving two last remedies to the world. These are the Holy Rosary and devotion to the Immaculate Heart of Mary. These are the last two remedies which signify that there will be no others.”
“The third reason is because in the plans of Divine Providence, God always, before He is about to chastise the world, exhausts all other remedies. Now, when He sees that the world pays no attention whatsoever, then as we say in our imperfect manner of speaking, He offers us with certain fear the last means of salvation, His Most Holy Mother. It is with certain fear because if you despise and repulse this ultimate means, we will not have any more forgiveness from Heaven, because we will have committed a sin which the Gospel calls the sin against the Holy Ghost. This sin consists of openly rejecting, with full knowledge and consent, the salvation which He offers. Let us remember that Jesus Christ is a very good Son and that He does not permit that we offend and despise His Most Holy Mother. … Our Lord Jesus Christ has always defended the honor of His Mother.”
“Look, Father, the Most Holy Virgin in these last times in which we live has given a new efficacy to the recitation of the Rosary, to such an extent that there is no problem, no matter how difficult it is, whether temporal or above all spiritual, in the personal life of each one of us, of our families, of the families of the world, or of the religious communities, or even of the life of peoples and nations, that cannot be solved by the Rosary. There is no problem, I tell you, no matter how difficult it is, that we cannot resolve by the prayer of the Holy Rosary. With the Holy Rosary we will save ourselves, we will sanctify ourselves, we will console Our Lord and obtain the salvation of many souls.”
“Finally, devotion to the Immaculate Heart of Mary, Our Most Holy Mother, consists in considering Her as the seat of mercy, of goodness and of pardon, and as the certain door by which we are to enter Heaven.”
The message of Fatima is then that we are now in a life or death struggle, even though most people are oblivious. As Sister Lucia warns us, “we must choose sides. Either we are for God or we are for the devil. There is no other possibility.”
In 1917, on that lovely spring day, the world changed, although no one really noticed but three illiterate shepherd children in a small hamlet in an insignificant country. And now, the 100 years given to satan is nearing its end as the spiritual battle reaches its frenetic climax. The millions of innocent babies sacrificed to the moloch of international planned parenthood (in China alone, over 300 million!), the millions of souls lost to despair because the Church no longer offers salvation, but only the insipid slop of ecumenism and social justice, the billions paid out for pederastic priests and bishops, all bear witness to the spiritual drought afflicting a disobedient Church.
On our own, we can do little, but that little is so important!
- Pray the full rosary every day in a spirit of reparation.
- Each day, strive to follow Jesus as truly as possible, offering all that you must endure for love of Him, for the conversion of sinners and in reparation to the Immaculate Heart of Mary, our Mother.
- Make the Total Consecration to the Immaculate Heart of Mary and wear the Brown Scapular of Our Lady of Mount Carmel.
- Make the Five First Saturdays of Reparation to the Immaculate Heart of Mary and continue them in reparation.
- Finally, pray and sacrifice always for the Pope to consecrate Russia according to the dictates of Our Lady of Fatima.
- Sister Lucia assured us that Our Lady would not refuse us if we petitioned her by her favorite means, her Rosary. So ask with confident faith!
Pray the Rosary and confound the devil!
Immaculate Heart of Mary be our salvation!
~ evensong for love of the Immaculate Heart of Mary, and the Sacred Heart of Jesus Christ, the King.
Vouchsafe that I may praise thee, O Sacred Virgin, give me strength against thine enemies.
