November 15, 2016: A Proposal for You

For the last month or so, we have been greatly distracted by the Presidential election. Now that America will be granted a period of time for discerning the effects of their choices, it is a good time for those who are devoted to the Immaculate Heart of Mary to pray with renewed fervor for the triumph of the Immaculata, in our hearts, in our families and in our Church.

Soon, we shall see the results of America’s choice. Let us use this time well. To begin, let’s consider what would have been a suitable Catholic plan for addressing the recent American presidential election. Then, we will discuss some options to remedy this.

What if …

Consider for a moment what might have happened if , instead of focusing mainly on the secular aspects of the election, the most prominent voices of traditional Catholicism had offered a Marian plan for the elections.

Something like this:

  • Invoke Our Lady of Fatima, Queen of the Holy Rosary by urging Catholics to make reparation  for America’s sins of pushing abortion, birth control and sodomite “marriage” worldwide and to ask her to bless our country and the world by:
  • First Saturdays of Reparation
  • One rosary daily in reparation, as above
  • Fasting every Friday for reparation to the Sacred Heart of Jesus Christ King.
  • Fasting every Saturday for the Sorrowful and Imaculate Heart of Mary.
  • All of this done in a spirit of reparation for our own sins, the sins of our country, the sins of our church.

I failed to post on this sufficiently. It seemed that this blog is too insignificant to make any difference and so, instead, I concentrated on my personal reparation rather than taking the time for posting and promoting such a program. Now, readers have asked how to respond to this particular opportunity. Why not consider adapting the above program?

For those who feel called to do so, at least pray for the grace to see what would please Our Lady in this crucial time. America is a vast country at a crossroads. By our prayers and penances, we might, God willing, arouse our fellow Catholics to true devotion to the Immaculate Heart of Mary and actually turn the tide. We know, or should know, that nothing truly good can come of our actions unless they are entrusted to the Immaculata, but with her we can do all things!

Would you do this? If not the full program listed above, could you not offer a rosary a day and a fast on Our Lady’s day each week for this purpose? I’m sorry to be so persistent, but please also understand the need for First Saturdays of Reparation. For those who do not have a true Mass close enough to do this, we suggest reading the Mass in your Missal, and spiritual Communion, and then offering the true Mass on Sunday, if available, in lieu of Saturday’s Mass, with the whole Sunday offered in reparation. Additionally, we can cultivate this spirit of reparation every day in an infinite variety of ways. Try it and you will see!

Here is a story of devotion to Our Lady that inspired me, may you be blessed by it as well:

In the 19th century, a Jewish man, Hermann Cohen, was converted to the faith through devotion to the Blessed Virgin Mary. He became a Carmelite monk and took the name, Father Augustine Mary of the Blessed Sacrament. He became well known for his inspiring love of Jesus in the most Blessed Sacrament and for Our Blessed Mother. Although he was able to convert many of his family, his own mother steadfastly resisted, even unto death. Although he prayed for her constantly and often consecrated his mother to Our Lady, she died on December 13, 1855 without repenting. Father Augustine Mary later confided his concerns to St. John Vianney who urged him, “Hope! You will, one day, on the Feast of the Immaculate Conception, receive a letter which will be very consoling to you.”

It was indeed, six years after this that Father Augustine Mary received a letter on December 8, 1861. A Jesuit priest handed Father a letter which had been written by a holy nun who had died in the odor of sanctity and had written the letter before her death in response to a vision which she had been granted. In it, she related that,

“As Madame Cohen was dying, and Jesus was about to pass sentence, the Blessed Virgin Mary appeared and exclaimed, ‘Grace, mercy, O my Son! For this soul that is about to perish. Another moment and it will be lost for eternity! … The soul of his mother is what is dearest to him; a thousand times he has consecrated it to me; he has confided it to the solicitude of my heart. Can I allow it to perish? This soul is mine, I claim at as a heritage, as the price of Thy blood, and of my sorrows at the foot of Thy Cross.’

The holy nun’s letter continued, “Instantly, a strong and powerful grace burst forth from the Heart of Jesus and penetrated the woman’s soul. She at once repented, embraced the Catholic faith and desired baptism and thus saved her soul.’ Our Lord then told the mystic, “Make this known to Father Augustine. It is a consolation I wish to grant to his long sufferings, in order that he may everywhere bless, and cause to be blessed, the goodness of My Mother’s heart and her power over Mine.”

Do you remember the old post of mine, “Our Lord’s Litany of Love, 2016”?

“As the Father hath loved Me, I also have loved you. Abide in My love. If you keep My commandments, you shall abide in My love; as I also have kept My Father’s commandments, and do abide in His love.”

“This is My commandment, that you love one another, as I have loved you. Greater love than this no man hath, that a man lay down his life for his friends. You are My friends, if you do the things that I command you.”

“You have not chosen Me: but I have chosen you; and have appointed you, that you should go, and should bring forth fruit; and your fruit should remain: that whatsoever you shall ask of the Father in My name, He may give it you.”

“These things I command you, that you love one another.” (John 15, 9-17)

Now is the time for love, for our earnest prayers and penances for all others. If we do not rise to this occasion, we must answer for our indifference, through which so many souls are lost. Our Lady has promised us her assistance in this; we can only fail by not attempting it.

We add the following, thanks to a reader who suggested it from another old post of ours, “Fire in the House of God” :

“The Church is in dire need of her Mother, to whom Christ Himself entrusted her from His throne of the Cross. If you read this, you are called to heed her command,

Jesus wants to use you to make me known and loved. He wants to establish devotion to my Immaculate Heart in the world.

Sacrifice yourselves for sinners, and say often, especially when you make some sacrifice, ‘O my Jesus, it is for love of Thee, for the conversion of sinners and in reparation for sins committed against the Immaculate Heart of Mary, I offer this sacrifice to Thee’. “

We are, all of us,  our brothers’ keeper! We must help those who are so unfortunate as to be unable to extricate themselves from their worldly thinking. Their pride has left them helpless before the Lord of the World, unable to discern their own danger, blind to the will of God. This includes our pitiful, arrogant hierarchy, immured in modernism, secular humanism and the other tragic ideologies that slay the souls of the faithless. Thus, our prayers, especially the true Mass and the Rosary, and our sacrifices and penances are needed to help our hierarchy repent, turn from their errors and restore the faith.

Pray the Rosary and confound the devil!

And so we pray, “Vouchsafe that I may praise thee, O Sacred Virgin! Give me strength against thine enemies!”

Immaculate Heart of Mary, Queen of our hearts, Mother of the Church, do thou offer to the Eternal Father the Precious Blood of Our Lord Jesus Christ, for the conversion of poor sinners, especially our Pontiff.

Our Lady of the Rosary, pray for us!

Most Sacred Heart of Jesus, Thy Kingdom come! Viva Cristo Rey!

St. Joseph, guardian of the Holy Family, protect our families!

St. Michael the Archangel, defend us in battle!

~ by evensong, for love of the Immaculate Heart of Mary, and the Sacred Heart of Jesus Christ, King.
Vouchsafe that I may praise thee, O Sacred Virgin, give me strength against thine enemies!
