A Vision of Hell

On July 13, 1917, Our Lady of the Rosary made, as she had promised, her third visit to the Cova da Iria.

It was in the torrid month of July, the month of the Precious Blood of Jesus, one hundred and two years ago today, that Our Lady of Fatima visited the little shepherds for the third time. The immense importance of this visit cannot be overestimated, for at this time, the Blessed Virgin revealed her Message for the World. We take the following account from “The Whole Truth About Fatima, Volume I”, by Frère Michel de la Sainte Trinité. This volume is available to download free from www.archive.org.

At the Cova da Iria on July 13, 1917, a crowd estimated at between one and two thousand were gathered. Lúcia, Francisco and Jacinta knelt before the scrubby little holm oak where Our Lady appeared. In her account, Lúcia relates that in answer to her question, “What does Your Grace want of me?”, Our Lady replied,

“I want you to come here on the 13th of next month, and to continue praying the Rosary every day in honour of Our Lady of the Rosary, in order to obtain peace for the world and the end of the war, because only She can help you.”

When Lúcia asked her to perform a miracle so that all would believe, Our Lady responded,

“Continue to come here every month. In October, I will tell you who I am and what I want, and I will perform a miracle for all to see and believe.”

Our Lady continued,

“Sacrifice yourselves for sinners, and say many times, especially when you make some sacrifice: ‘O Jesus, it is for love of You, for the conversion of sinners, and in reparation for the sins committed against the Immaculate Heart of Mary’ “.

From Lúcia’s account,

Hell, where the souls of poor sinners go... Pray for them ...
Hell, where the souls of poor sinners go…
Pray for them …

“As Our Lady spoke these last words, She opened Her hands once more, as She had done during the two previous months. The rays of light seemed to penetrate the earth, and we saw as it were a sea of fire. Plunged in this fire were demons and souls in human form, like transparent burning embers, all blackened or burnished bronze, floating about in the conflagration, now raised into the air by the flames that issued from within themselves together with great clouds of smoke, now falling back on every side like sparks in huge fires, without weight or equilibrium, amid shrieks and groans of pain and despair, which horrified us and made us tremble with fear. (It must have been this sight which caused me to cry out, as people say they heard me.) The demons could be distinguished by their terrifying and repellent likeness to frightful and unknown animals, black and transparent like burning coals.”

Here, in her Third Memoir, Sister Lúcia added: “This vision only lasted a moment, thanks to our good Mother in Heaven who, in the first apparition, had promised to take us to Heaven. Were it not for that, I believe we would have died out of fright and fear.”

Terrified and as if to plead for succour, we looked up at Our Lady, who said to us, so kindly and so sadly:

“You have seen hell, where the souls of poor sinners go. To save them, God wishes to establish in the world devotion to My Immaculate Heart.”

“If what I say to you is done, many souls will be saved and there will be peace. The war is going to end, but if people do not cease offending God, a worse one will break out during the reign of Pius XI.

“When you see a night illumined by an unknown light, know that this is the great sign given you by God that He is about to punish the world for its crimes, by means of war, famine and persecutions against the Church and the Holy Father.

“To prevent this, I shall come to ask for the consecration of Russia to My Immaculate Heart, and the Communion of Reparation on the First Saturdays.

“If My requests are heeded, Russia will be converted and there will be peace; if not, she will spread her errors throughout the world, causing wars and persecutions against the Church. The good will be martyred, the Holy Father will have much to suffer, various nations will be annihilated.

“In the end, My Immaculate Heart will triumph. The Holy Father will consecrate Russia to Me, and she will be converted, and a certain period of peace will be granted to the world.

“In Portugal, the dogma of the Faith will always be preserved, etc. [This marks the third part of the secret, not yet not revealed] Do not tell this to anybody. Francisco, yes, you may tell him.

“When you say the Rosary, say after each mystery: ‘O my Jesus, forgive us our sins, save us from the fire of hell. Lead all souls to Heaven, especially those who are most in need.’ “

While this was going on, Ti Marto relates, the crowd was so silent that you could have heard a pin drop. And, like Maria Carreira and some other witnesses, Mr. Marto, who was very near the seers, perceived an unintelligible murmur: “then I began to hear a sound, a little buzzing rather like a mosquito in an empty bottle. But I couldn’t hear any words!” This mysterious murmur was heard by only a few witnesses.

However, two other unusual phenomena were noticed by a much greater number: The luminosity of the sky noticeably decreased, as during an eclipse, the whole time the ecstasy of the children lasted. At the same time, the temperature, which was very hot, went down noticeably, and the tint of the light was modified. The atmosphere became yellow as gold.

In addition, a whitish cloud, rather pleasant to look at, formed around the seers. Here is the testimony of Mr. Marto:

“I saw what looked like a little greyish cloud resting on the oak tree, and the sun’s heat lessened and there was a delicious fresh breeze. It hardly seemed like the height of summer.”

THE TWOFOLD MESSAGE OF JULY 13

In the cycle of apparitions, this one on July 13 is a watershed moment. The previous apparitions, including the Angel’s visits, prepared for this one and this apparition is essential for understanding the subsequent ones. For it was on this day, as Lúcia relates, that “Our Lady deigned to reveal to us the Secret”.

So true is this that the message of July 13 appears to us very clearly divided into two parts:

  • First, there are the words which were divulged immediately,
  • Second, the long text of the secret which the seers carefully kept hidden. However, what is important is that the two parts of the message are very closely connected.

The great novelty of this apparition, the decisive word which would attract innumerable crowds to the Cova da Iria for the last three months, is the announcement of a great miracle.

Lúcia requested of Our Lady, ” … tell us who You are, and to work a miracle so that all may believe that You are appearing to us.” Although the request of Lúcia reminds us of Bernadette’s request at Lourdes, the response of Our Lady is very different: At Lourdes, when Bernadette followed the advice of Father Peyramale and asked Her to make the rosebush in the grotto bloom, Our Lady was content to smile. In this case, and here is the decisive, prodigious event, She accedes to the request: “Continue to come each month. In October, I will say who I am and what I want, and I will work a miracle so that all may believe.”

Thus She announced three months in advance the place, day and hour of the promised great miracle. It was a clear promise, without any condition or the least ambiguity. On August 19 and September 13, Our Lady repeated it in the same terms. Never before had Heaven shown such condescension to the demands of men, to guarantee for them with certitude the truth of a message. Already, by this solid link between the prophecy and the miracle, the event of Fatima is unheard of, incomparable.

Our Lady made this announcement of the miracle “so that all will believe”, immediately before revealing to the three seers Her great prophetic secret. This was to make them understand, in all clarity, that the miracle would guarantee the divine origin of the secret, as well as the fulfillment of this prophetic secret. Thus the great miracle of October 13 was closely associated, by the Blessed Virgin Herself, not only with the whole of Her message, but especially with the prophetic secret of July 13.

It was when Our Lady opened Her hands again as in the two previous months, that the children had the vision of hell. This month, no doubt the Blessed Virgin remained in this attitude while She revealed the secret. And the supernatural light which they received then was not limited to the vision of hell. Once again, as on May 13 and June 13, they enjoyed a sort of vision of God as Lúcia reports:

Francisco seemed to be the one on whom the vision of hell made the least impression, though it did indeed have quite a considerable effect on him. What made the most powerful impression on him and what wholly absorbed him was God, the Most Holy Trinity, perceived in that light which penetrated our inmost souls.

Afterwards Francisco said: ‘We were on fire in that light which is God, and yet we were not burnt! What is God?… We could never put it into words. Yes, that is something indeed which we could never express! But what a pity it is that He is so sad! If only I could console Him!’

This great sorrow of Our Lord, which reveals to us His Heart, outraged by our sins, and as it were overwhelmed by the chastisements which these sins justly draw down upon us, profoundly marked the soul of Francisco during the first three apparitions. He never forgot it, and his whole ideal would be to pray and sacrifice himself to ‘console God’.

THE IMMACULATE HEART OF MARY

The apparition of July 13 also marks the high point of the revelation of the Immaculate Heart of Mary, the center and very heart of the whole message. The three apparitions of the Angel, followed by those of Our Lady on May 13 and June 13, had prepared this revelation which the great secret expresses in all its fullness. But it is a remarkable fact that in the last three apparitions there is no more mention of the Immaculate Heart of Mary. This great design of divine mercy for the salvation of the world would not be unveiled until later…

That is why, on July 13, Our Lady solemnly announced that She would come back. She kept Her promise and returned on December 10, 1925 at Pontevedra, to manifest once again Her Heart pierced with thorns, and to request the practice of the communion of reparation on the five First Saturdays of the month. And She came back again, on June 13, 1929, at Tuy, to ask for the consecration of Russia to Her Immaculate Heart.

Russia? On July 13, Lúcia did not yet know what this word meant. Yet she always affirmed having heard the word Russia. Similarly, she is sure of having heard ‘no reinado de Pio XI’. ‘We did not know if it was a Pope or a king’, she confided to Father Jongen in 1946, ‘but the most Holy Virgin spoke of Pius XI.’ As for the announcement of ‘a night illumined by an unknown light’, it was fulfilled to the letter during the night of January 25-26, 1938.

Let us point out here, since it is important for critical purposes, what perfect harmony there is between the two parts of the message, that which was divulged immediately (Fatima I), and that which remained secret a long time (Fatima II). The convergence of themes, which marks the profound unity of the same message pronounced by the Blessed Virgin the same day, is striking.

‘ONLY SHE CAN HELP YOU.’

Frère Michel de la Sainte Trinité :

The secret of the secret is that God wills to give us everything through the mediation of the Blessed Virgin, in response to our devotion to Her Immaculate Heart, not only spiritual goods but even temporal peace, and this for the whole world. Has anyone noticed that one of the words of Our Lady, faithfully reported by Lúcia to her parish priest the next day, has the same vigour, the same exclusivity? ‘Continue to pray the Rosary every day… to obtain peace for the world and the end of the war, for only She can help you.’ It is equivalent to saying: there is no salvation for us except from Jesus  through the Blessed Virgin; this was already the essential core of the secret of Fatima which was disclosed as early as July, 1917.

Pray the Rosary and confound satan and all who serve him!

Immaculate Heart of Mary, Queen of our hearts, Mother of the Church, do thou offer to the Eternal Father the Precious Blood of Our Lord Jesus Christ, for the conversion of poor sinners, especially our Pontiff.
Most Sacred Heart of Jesus, Thy kingdom come! Viva Cristo Rey!
Immaculate Heart of Mary, pray for us now and at the hour of our death.
St. Joseph, protect us, protect our families, protect our priests.
St. Michael the Archangel, defend us in battle.

Please pray for the Consecration of Russia to the Immaculate Heart of Mary!

False Apparitions and Flawed Consecrations

NOTE: 24 May, 2019, I posted an update on our About Us page to close all further discussion of false apparitions. Thank you for reading.

Yesterday’s post on Bolsonaro’s Consecration of Brasil to the Immaculate Heart of Mary brought so many interesting responses from readers. Although it is not possible to respond individually to all, today, we will try to address a few of them.

Concern: Why was the Consecration in Brasil performed in a secular setting? Why not in a more fitting place like a Cathedral?

Reply: It was important to place the Consecration within the government setting. Had it been simply relegated to the Church, it would have stayed there, but in the government it asserts the Blessed Virgin’s authority far more notably.

Concern: Matteo Salvini was filmed and the video is online showing Matteo Salvini participating in a blasphemous conga dance within the church of Saint Bernadette at Lourdes with profane music blaring. How is this man fit to even mention the Immaculate Heart of Mary? Also, contrary to your assertions, he did not consecrate Italy to the Immaculate,,, it was an entrustment only, not a Consecration. Please correct this.

Reply: The above concern is a composite of comments. To address them all, I remind readers that, as we have mentioned before, Our Lord built His Church upon sinners. Saint Peter is a prime example, first rejecting the very idea that Christ would have to suffer, then attacking Malchus, then denying Our Lord in the courtyard, and even after becoming Pope, attempting to flee his own inevitable martyrdom. And yet, he was sustained by the grace of God. He is a perfect example that not one thing – not . one . thing . are we capable of without Our Lord’s saving grace. That is essential to grasp.

And when the Consecration of Russia is finally accomplished, it will not be otherwise than by the grace of God through woefully inadequate bishops and a pope who is manifestly inadequate on his own, but obviously obedient to and totally dependent on the Immaculate Heart of Mary.

In the meantime, every one of these consecrations of cities, states, countries, in any small way, whatever their failings, are steps, small and faltering perhaps, but precisely because they are our weak efforts, treasured by the Sacred Hearts of Jesus and Mary, who are eager to transform our weak efforts into miracles of grace and salvation if we, the loyal children of the Immaculata will continue to support these efforts with our rosaries and penances, the sacrifices of our daily duties with generous love in reparation.

Which brings us to the tedious and tendentious matter of false devotions. Many readers question why, if flawed consecrations are “acceptable” to me, do I continue to rail about false devotions, most of which contain much that is pious and often bring forth some good fruit among the faithful.

My response: Lúcia said several times that Fatima’s message is the last, devotion to the Immaculate Heart is the final gift we are given. It thus joins devotion to the Sacred Heart because it is through these two glorious Beings that our salvation was wrought. The flesh and blood of Our Lord Jesus Christ came from the most pure flesh and blood of the Immaculata.

Devotion to the Immaculate Heart of Mary is not something extraneous, a superficial addition to devotion to the Sacred Heart of Jesus. On the contrary, it is the completion of this devotion, which is given to us by our merciful Father in Heaven, precisely for these dire times in which we live. Devotion to the Immaculate Heart of Mary is the only way of true and humble obedience.

Now this completion means that nothing else, no other devotion is necessary. In her message at Fatima, Our Most Loving Mother gave us all that we need, and commanded of us all that we must do in this particular time.

Again, I emphasise: Mary, the Mother of our Lord Jesus Christ, has given to us the means by which the Church must be restored, and many, many souls will be saved. You must cleave to the Message of Fatima with all your heart, with all your will, with all your being, all your soul!

If any apparition anywhere, even one which is approved by a post-conciliar bishop, adds any slightest thing to the true message of Fatima, it is not from God, but from the deceiver. It may edify some, but it is a channel for satan to infect the gullible and many souls are diverted in subtle ways from obeying Our Lady’s commands. Such are the many tax-exempt “apostolates” that rush about proclaiming the need for another Marian dogma, or proclaiming there needs to be a new devotion to the “Most Chaste Heart of Saint Joseph, or to his own Sacred Heart. How sad for dear Saint Joseph, who was always silent and desirous of obeying God in the utmost humility to be the object of such a “devotion”.

Stop these diabolical diversions! Obey the message of our Lady of the Rosary at Fatima, for the time is soon coming when what little grace you have will be withdrawn for now is the ancient enemy’s time and the power of darkness. I am trying so hard to express to you that if you keep reaching out for misleading devotions, you will utterly miss the last means you are given to obey.

Because I myself have been sidetracked by this, and my own illness, I have been unable to get the posts up which are essential now. Events – both good and bad – are hastening to a climax. I have pointed out in earlier posts, many significant markers so that you may understand the significance of the events now occurring and their relation to the timeline.

But few have understood, or perhaps it is rather that most have been indifferent. I hope to try to make things a bit more clear so that you can see the urgency, but strength fails and time is against me. I must rest and we all must pray. God willing, tomorrow will provide another opportunity and perhaps things will go better.

Thank you for reading, please pass along anything here that may be worthwhile. I pray for you always, but I do not ask for your prayers – rather, I beg you – Pray for priests! This is a time of horrendous suffering for them. Your prayers are essential right now. As for me, our dear Lady knows full well my utter helplessness without her; she knows I would be swept away in less than a millisecond without her and so, she pities me and holds me close.

†  Immaculate Heart of Mary, Queen of our hearts, Mother of the Church, do thou offer to the Eternal Father the Precious Blood of Our Lord Jesus Christ, for the conversion of poor sinners, especially our Pontiff.
†  Most Sacred Heart of Jesus, Thy kingdom come! Viva Cristo Rey!
†  St. Joseph, protect us, protect our families, protect our priests.
†  St. Michael the Archangel, defend us in battle.

Please pray for the Consecration of Russia to the Immaculate Heart of Mary!

~ by evensong for love of the Immaculate Heart of Mary and the Sacred Heart of Jesus Christ, King.
Vouchsafe that I may praise thee, O Sacred Virgin! Give me strength against thine enemies!

Francisco and Jacinta, Designs of Mercy

“The Hearts of Jesus and Mary have designs of mercy on you.”

Saints Jacinta and Francisco Marto of Fatima

Today, we consider Francisco and Jacinta, the two youngest saints of Fatima. As we discussed in our earlier post, “The Promise”,

Francisco saw the Blessed Virgin perfectly, but did not hear Her words. He only understood the questions of Lúcia. As for Jacinta, who saw and heard everything, she never brought herself to speak to the apparition. Thus Lúcia was the only one to have the privilege of speaking with Her.” … “Young and quite small, the Queen of Heaven also came very close to (the) three children. For a pedestal She had chosen a little holm oak, about a metre high.  ‘We were so close’, writes Lúcia , ‘that we found ourselves in the light surrounding Her, or rather emanating from Her, about a metre and a half away, more or less.’ (from Sister Lucia’s Fourth Memoir)

In 1916, St. Michael the Archangel, the Angel of Fatima had told the children, “The Hearts of Jesus and Mary have designs of mercy on you”, but it was not until Our Lady began to appear that they perceived the true meaning of “designs of mercy”.  By the time of Our Lady’s third visit,  July 13, 1917, it was becoming clearer, and by then, Francisco could say emphatically, “What I want is to go to Heaven!” This eagerness for Heaven recalls St. Bernadette of Lourdes, who said of Our Lady,  “She was so beautiful that after seeing Her once one would be willing to die to see Her again!”

That Great Light Which Is God

Although Francisco was never able to hear the words of Our Lady, he was very astute in recognising many essential aspects of the apparitions: Continue reading “Francisco and Jacinta, Designs of Mercy”

On the eve of the battle

“With great longing I desire the spread of devotion to the Immaculate Heart of Mary, for this heart is the magnet that draws hearts to Me, the heart that radiates to the world the streams of my light and my love. It is finally, the inexhaustible spring from which flows into the world the living water of my mercy.” (Our Lord Jesus Christ to Sister Lucia, 1943, quoted in Sister Lucia’s letter to Bishop Gurza, May 27, 1943)

Our Lord Jesus Christ, on the night before He died for our sins, promised us, “I will not leave you orphans.” Thus, he spoke to Sister Lúcia in 1943 in order to offer us in this sad Passion of His Church, the Immaculate Heart of His Mother as the inexhaustible spring of living water of His Mercy. Those who remain obstinately indifferent to this do so to their own eternal destruction.

It can be difficult to discern the true path amidst this diabolical smoke and carnage of the great spiritual battle. But Our Lord offers us the remedy: the Heart of Mary, that radiates His light and love to strengthen and guide us safely. In the Message of Fatima, we are given  a key to comprehend the mysterious passage in Chapter 12, Apocalypse:  Continue reading “On the eve of the battle”

Lift up your hearts!

Two readers forwarded the following from the newsletter of the Society of St. Pius X. “You may find in this some encouragement” one remarked. And so I have. Many of us have prayed ardently for. someone strong to take up the banner for the Immaculata and lead us in a renewed devotion to the Immaculate Heart of Mary. It is so encouraging to find this occurring just as we have prayed so ardently for leadership to arise!

Dear members of the Society, dear readers,

With joy we inaugurate a new spiritual practice that will be dedicated especially to the Blessed Virgin. We will do this on May 13, the anniversary of the first apparition of Our Lady in Fatima, and during this year when we will celebrate the 35th anniversary of the consecration of the Society of Saint Pius X to the Sorrowful and Immaculate Heart of Mary, which Abp. Marcel Lefebvre performed in Ecône on December 8, 1984. This twofold commemoration, however must not remain a pious memory, a bit sentimental and pleasant, of course, but without any effect on our spiritual life.

The reason for the existence of this new practice is to reawaken our souls, to rekindle our fervor, and to remind us vividly of the total dependence of the Society of Saint Pius X on Our Lady.

I wish to encourage you to read and to meditate on this consecration. The words pronounced by our founder were well-aimed and still have a burning relevance: the errors denounced in them certainly have not disappeared. On the contrary, they have grown and multiplied like cancer cells; they have gained ground and seem to have invaded the whole public square. My intention is not to make a negative, discouraging observation, as though everything that has been done was of no use. No, the battle continues as long as it has not been won; the struggle to drive out the sickness continues as long as there is any life. And we will fight as long as it takes, with the same weapons: recourse to the Virgin Mary, especially to her Immaculate Heart, the refuge of sinners and of combatants. May 13, 1917, Mary’s Promise

One hundred and two years and counting . . .
“You are going to suffer a great deal, but the grace of God will be your comfort.”

Our Lady’s words to Lúcia, Francisco and Jacinta echo down the long years of this tragic century.  Although Francisco and Jacinta saw a quick end to their trials, Lúcia’s suffering was protracted and seems especially poignant to us today.  For Lúcia was to experience disobedience to the message of Our Lady and the tragic betrayal of the Church  by Popes and Bishops, the sly derision of theologians, the crass opportunism of some of the laity and the bovine indifference of most of the rest.  Thus, she accompanied Our Lord and His Blessed Mother in their suffering.

Lúcia, Francisco and Jacinta were declared saints by the Immaculate Mother of God from the very start of the Fatima message. They have no need of a “Holy Father” of this sort who offers no more relevance for them than Caiphas and Herod had for our dear Savior. Lúcia still has much to teach us as we prepare to face the consequences of the Church’s betrayal of Our Lady of the Rosary.

May 13, 1917, the day the world changed and no one noticed … An offer made, an offer ignored … such a small thing … as they say, “the devil’s in the details” …

Dispelling Confusion?

Note: Post edited for clarity 9:00 am.

Have you heard of  Cardinal Raymond Burke’s crusade to Storm Heaven with a goal to “dispel confusion” and “flood souls with Grace and Light and Truth”? I had not kept up with the Rosary Warriors in some time, but some readers asked about it recently and there are some differences in the good Cardinal’s initiative and what I have asserted here as regards to the message of Fatima.

Regarding “Catholic Action for Faith and Family”.

I’m not familiar with Catholic Action, but I do have great respect for the good Cardinal, and this article is only my friendly attempt to keep the focus on the true message of Fatima, which appears to have become lost in much of the verbiage of our few remaining faithful prelates, such as Cardinal Burke.

Now, Cardinal Burke, bless his heart, knows very well that Our Lady of Fatima requested the establishment and propagation of the First Saturdays of Reparation and also asked for the Consecration of Russia to her Immaculate Heart, performed by the Pope and Bishops, in fact, his site states that very fact: Continue reading “Dispelling Confusion?”

The Necessary Devotion

But still not done . . .

Each year we discuss the necessity of obeying the Mother of Our Lord Jesus Christ who asked us for a small favor 102 years ago. Most Catholics have not found the time to do this, perhaps they are too busy with other, more important things; I don’t know but it’s getting a little tiresome, year after year to watch the awful disintegration of the structures of the faith and folks still cannot grasp the concept that when God commands us, He intends that we obey. Look at our sidebar’s recommended reading. First, there is an article about the “religion of peace” slaughtering Catholics in Sr Lanka, then there is an article about Communist Chinese persecuting Catholics in China, I could have also added an article about liberal governments throughout the world slaughtering babies in the wombs of their moms.

More than a century after our popes refused to honor Our Lady’s request, Christianity, and especially the Holy Catholic Church, is losing on every front. The pitiful apostates running the Church cannot see their way clear to obey — they are too far gone in the subterranean depths of depravity — they cannot do what is needed until we, the faithful, by our penances and prayers, make reparation for these grave insults to God and His beloved emissary, the Blessed Virgin Mary.

The confusion of minds today has increased to the point that Catholics may no longer be able to obey. And so this post is not for them but for those of you reading this, I hope you will consider trying even harder this year to help someone return to Fatima, come keep Our Lady company, make your First Saturdays of Reparation and by the grace of God, pass  this devotion on to others.

No one else will help us, so we must try even harder to save souls by bringing them to First Saturdays. This coming Saturday we begin the First Saturdays of the Fatima cycle: May, June, July, August and September. Then we do October, the Sixth First Saturday as a little something extra, a gift of thanksgiving. It’s a beautiful way to tell our Blessed Mother we love her!

Note on 6 May, 2019: After I posted this article, a friend and long-time reader forwarded me a newsletter from an apostolate, Catholic Action for Faith and Family that is associated with Cardinal Raymond Leo Burke. The newsletter is quite polished and obviously an expensive, sophisticated effort. I won’t say slick, because I do not intend to be derogatory. It uses some highly charged terms and phrases in order to draw the faithful in; such as,  “Operation Storm Heaven”, “Rosary Warriors”, and promises to “spread the Light of Truth”, “we will unveil the mystery of the Three Secrets of Fatima”, and manages to avoid dwelling on the hard truths. The Novena prayers for each day tend to rely on quotes from Cardinal Burke instead of using the appropriate quote from Our Lady. While there is a glancing mention that the Fist Saturdays of Reparation were not done, for some reason, Cardinal burke simply leaves it there, and continues to promote his “Rosary Warriors” initiative of Rosary and Holy Mass on the first day of each month. As I asked before, “Why, Cardinal Burke can you not lead the faithful to the devotion Our Lady asked for? Why not First Saturdays of Reparation?”

I do not feel up to contending against someone as august as Cardinal Burke and so will just say that until we storm heaven with our. proof that we are obeying all that heaven has asked of us, and most urgently the First Saturdays of Reparation and her real, true Rosary with her requested prayers, we are not very likely to please her or or Our Good Lord who sent her to us.

On her second visit (June 13, 1917), Our Lady told the little shepherds,,

“Jesus wishes to make use of you to make me known and loved. He wants to establish in the world devotion to my Immaculate Heart.” …  “I will never forsake you. My Immaculate Heart will be your refuge and the path that leads you to God.” …  Our Lady extended her right hand and in front of her palm was a heart encircled by thorns which pierced it. In Lúcia’s words, “We understood that this was the Immaculate Heart of Mary outraged by the sins of humanity and seeking reparation.”

And then, the following month, after showing them the  the vision of Hell, Our Lady said:

You have seen Hell, where the souls of poor sinners go. To save them, God wishes to establish throughout the world devotion to my Immaculate Heart. If people do what I request, many souls will be saved and there will be peace.  The war is going to end. But if people do not stop offending God, another and worse war will break out in the reign of Pius XI. When you see a night illumined by an unknown light, know that it is the great sign that God gives you, that He is going to punish the world for its crimes by means of war, famine, and persecutions against the Church and of the Holy Father.

To prevent this I shall come to ask for the Consecration of Russia to my Immaculate Heart and the Communion of Reparation on the First Saturdays.

If my requests are heeded, Russia will be converted, and there will be peace. If not, she will spread her errors throughout the world, causing wars and persecution of the Church; the good will be martyred, the Holy Father will have much to suffer, various nations will be annihilated. In the end, my Immaculate Heart will triumph. The Holy Father will consecrate Russia to me, she will be converted, and some time of peace will be given to the world.”

Frère Michel de la Sainte Trinité , in Volume II of the Whole Truth About Fatima quotes Sister Lúcia of Fatima’s recollection (given in the third person):

“On December 10, 1925, the Most Holy Virgin appeared to her, and by Her side, elevated on a luminous cloud, was the Child Jesus. The Most Holy Virgin rested Her hand on her shoulder, and as She did so, She showed her a heart encircled by thorns, which She was holding in Her other hand.

At the same time, the Child said: “Have compassion on the Heart of your Most Holy Mother, covered with thorns, with which ungrateful men pierce It at every moment, and there is no one to make an act of reparation to remove them.”

Then the Most Holy Virgin said: “Look My daughter, at My Heart, surrounded with thorns with which ungrateful men pierce Me at every moment by their blasphemies and ingratitude. You at least try to console Me and announce in My name that I promise to assist at the moment of death, with all the graces necessary for salvation, all those who, on the first Saturday of five consecutive months, shall confess, receive Holy Communion, recite five decades of the Rosary, and keep Me company for fifteen minutes while meditating on the fifteen mysteries of the Rosary, with the intention of making reparation to Me.”

In this revelation, Our Lady of the Rosary as Mediatrix of Graces,  promises the supremely valuable gift of God’s grace, that is, the gift of final perseverance, without which other gifts are worthless, “For what doth it profit a man, if he gain the whole world, and suffer the loss of his own soul?” (Matt 16, 26).

Frère Michel continues, “the first fruit of the Communion of Reparation is the salvation of the one practicing it. Let us place no limits on the divine mercy, but keep to the letter of the Blessed Virgin Mary’s promise: whoever fulfills all the conditions set down can be sure of obtaining at the moment of death at least – and this even after miserable lapses back into a state of grave sin – the graces necessary to obtain the pardon of God, and to be preserved from eternal chastisement.”

The devotion of First Saturdays was not at all new, but was given a new emphasis by the Blessed Virgin. Previously, there had existed the practice of devoting Saturdays to Mary. For instance, “The Fifteen Saturdays in honor of the Most Holy Rosary”, a popular devotion of the Rosary Confraternities to receive the Sacraments and perform pious works on each of fifteen consecutive Saturdays in honor of the Fifteen  Mysteries of Our Lady’s Rosary. Pope Leo XIII enriched this devotion with generous plenary indulgences.

Then, just a few years before Our Lady came to Fatima, St. Pius X, on June 13, 1912,  granted generous new indulgences for the Devotion of Reparation on the First Saturdays of the month, in order to “promote the piety of the faithful towards Immaculate Mary, Mother of God, and to make reparation for the outrages done to Her holy Name and Her privileges by impious men”.  On November 13, 1920, St. Pius’s successor, Benedict XV granted new indulgences to this practice when accomplished for eight consecutive months.

And so we see that when Our Lady requested that the Pope solemnly approve of this devotion and promote it,  she was not seeking the impossible, but merely adding precision and simplifying  an established devotion. And yet, since 1925, no pope whatsoever has obeyed this very simple request.

Pope Benedict XV was succeeded by Pope Pius XI who did much to proclaim the Kingship of our Lord Jesus Christ. But this pope pointedly ignored Sister Lúcia and her efforts to call the true message of Fatima to his attention.  His efforts to broker peace failed dismally and his aid to the Russian people only served to assist Stalin’s hellish communism in its stranglehold on the enslaved Russian people.

We shall see in another post very soon how Pius XI’s misguided actions  were the trigger for Our Lady’s return, in 1929 to  ask for the Consecration of Russia, which he also ignored, thus contributing to Russia’s spreading of its errors, and causing the loss of untold numbers of souls.

Pope Pius XII also did not establish the Devotion of the First Saturdays of Reparation as Our Lady requested. Much is made of his failure to Consecrate Russia, but the establishment of First Saturdays was easily within his reach and consequently, it is inexcusable that this was not done for fully 35 years until 1960, when all became clearer with John XXIII’s open defiance of the request of the Mother of God.

John Paul II, whom many today call “Great” and “Saint” added to the betrayal by  refusing to promote the simple and profoundly merciful devotion of First Saturdays of Reparation, and promoting instead the false  “Divine Mercy” devotion and the “Luminous” mysteries, knowing full well that every DM chaplet recited was a rosary denied to Our Lady, and every recitation of the Luminous Mysteries supplanted one of Our Lady’s venerable mysteries, thus falsely pitting the two Sacred Hearts against each other.  The Sacred Heart of Jesus and the Immaculate Heart of Mary are not vying with one another for our attention! Those who attempt to set the one against the other are offending both Hearts deeply.

At Fulda, John Paul gave his reasons for not revealing the Third Secret, When asked why the Third Secret was not revealed, the Pope responded:

“Given the seriousness of the contents, my predecessors in the Petrine office diplomatically preferred to postpone publication so as not to encourage the world power of Communism to make certain moves.  On the other hand, it should be sufficient for all Christians to know this, if there is a message in which it is written that the oceans will flood whole areas of the earth and that from one moment to the next millions of people will perish, truly the publication of such a message is no longer something  to be so much desired.”

Thus, the pope showed that he placed human considerations ahead of trust and obedience to God. He also never gave a clear explanation for why he refused to promote the First Saturdays asked for by Our Lady. If he was truly the devout Marian pope he professed to be, why did he refuse Our Lady this small favor she had asked for?

Our Popes have not obeyed Our Lady’s request for the First Saturdays of Reparation, our Bishops have not promoted this devotion (for the most part) neither have the majority of Novus Ordo Catholics. But now, more than ever, we few faithful can and must obey Our Lady’s request in this, the centenary year of the apparitions, miracle and message of Fatima.

Soon, we will have an opportunity that will never come again. The First Saturday of May, that is, May 6th, will present the opportunity to observe Our Lady’s long-requested First Saturdays from May through September in the Centenary of her apparitions at Fatima. Then, October 7th, we can give her one extra First Saturday, just because we, her true children love her so much! What a lovely spiritual bouquet for the Queen of the Holy Rosary, Queen of our hearts! What a blessing to be able to prepare for the momentous date of October 13, 2017! Please make every effort to perform this devotion!

For more information on First Saturdays of Reparation, please see our earlier post: First Saturdays of Reparation.

Thank you for reading. Please encourage others to make the essential First Saturdays of Reparation between now and October 13.

Remember, pray the Rosary and confound the devil and all who serve him.

Immaculate Heart of Mary, Queen of our hearts, Mother of the Church, do thou offer to the Eternal Father the Precious Blood of Our Lord Jesus Christ, for the conversion of poor sinners, especially our Pontiff.

Our Lady of the Rosary, pray for us!

Most Sacred Heart of Jesus, Thy Kingdom come! Viva Cristo Rey!

St. Joseph, guardian of the Holy Family, protect our families, protect our priests!

St. Michael the Archangel, defend us in battle!

~  by evensong, for love of the Sorrowful and Immaculate Heart of Mary, Queen of our hearts.
Vouchsafe that I may praise thee, O Sacred Virgin, give me strength against thine enemies!

Return to Fatima, 2019

The most useful message we can offer during this reign of the enemies of Christ is to  return to the true message of Fatima. Now, when the Church is being assaulted by those within its highest ranks, even the vulgar man occupying the See of Peter,  it seems that those who are faithful to tradition and devoted to Our Lady of Fatima are less in unity than ever before.

Today, we have a leadership void and the temptation arises for various persons to “step into the breach” as it were and set themselves up as leader. As you look around the web, everyone, it seems has become an instant expert, opining on canon law, Thomistic theology and deep questions about the practice of the faith. It can be confusing, even overwhelming to those of us simply trying to hold fast to the faith against such odds. My goal is  only to call readers to return to the message of Our Lady of the Rosary at Fatima, from the Angel’s message on through the six appearances of Our Lady to the shepherd children and on through the locutions Sister Lùcia received and to help my readers practice the devotions requested by Our Lady of Fatima.

Right now, there is a “fog of war”, or perhaps, a “diabolical disorientation” which makes us uncertain and dispirited. As I talk with readers from various countries, I have yet to hear anyone report that they are energized by this crisis. All of us are severely challenged right now. How to proceed? Return to the simple things, for that is why Our Mother gave us her Rosary. She stole my heart when she asked Sister Lùcia for us to simply spend some time with her. Imagine! The great Mother of Our Saviour asking for a bit of our time! We are so  blessed!

The rule in all this is always the rule of love.  motivated by devotion to the glory of God, the honor of the Immaculata and the salvation of souls. If you do not discern those qualities in a writer, it is best to look elsewhere. Today, more than ever satan deceives so many by vain curiosity, and by promoting devotions which detract from the true devotions to the Sacred Heart of Jesus and the Immaculate Heart of Mary. Included in those essential devotions is  devotion to Our Lady’s Miraculous Medal, which honors her Immaculate Conception and is a most potent sacramental.

The first resource and clearest summary is the three volumes by Frère Michel de la Sainte Trinité, The Whole Truth About Fatima, (Vol 1, Vol 2, Vol 3) which are still available online through archive.org. That site is rapidly removing true Catholic classics.

Often today there is criticism of those who emphasise  “prayer and reparation” over the need for action. There should be a balance between them. To rush into action before obtaining a sound foundation in spiritual practice is to be defeated before starting. The true Message of Fatima is a call to the faithful to return to obedience and reparation. This obedience is required of each of us personally, and it requires humility, which is perhaps the most unpopular virtue today, even more disliked than purity.

Sin entered into the world through pride and disobedience. The Blessed Virgin Mary crushes the head of satan by her humble obedience to God’s will. In these latter days our loving  Father sends her, His most precious creature, to offer devotion to her Immaculate Heart as our secure path back to Him. It is from Mary, from her purity, humility and obedience, that we learn how best to understand what God wills for us in these confusing times.

Once we have that strong foundation under us, then we are able to discern the appropriate actions to take. But it can only lead to disaster if we jump into hastily taken actions without being spiritually prepared, for this is a spiritual combat first of all. It is pride that makes us want to seek out action before we have humbled ourselves by penance and mental prayer. . When we children of Mary are sufficient in numbers, we will have a leader, for Our Lady always provides for her own. Our first task is obedient devotion to the Immaculate Heart of Mary, in the way she requested, that is Rosary, First Saturdays, make of everything a reparation, and so on as we have often discussed. If we sacrifice and pray for her requests to be obeyed, we shall see her will, and we will obtain all that we pray for and more.

Much of today’s confusion comes from a severe lack of trust in the most Blessed Virgin. Like a drowning man who refuses the life preserver in order to flail uselessly until his strength is gone, many souls are in great danger because they cannot trust Mary — Mary who offers such simple things as the Rosary —  for in this proud modern age we yearn to do “great things” for her. Paradoxically, the greatest things are often the smallest! And so, we kneel and pray, and trust her, and in that humility and obedience, especially that self-denial — yes, especially that! — there is much merit and we shall someday see how many souls are helped merely by spending a little time with her.

For the true way to conquer satan, look to this Immaculate Heart,  think now, what makes it Immaculate? It is Immaculate  because in that most pure heart, she never made any room at all for sin, she is eternally “full of grace”!  Her Immaculate Heart alone among all creation has never had satan’s mark, sin. Therefore it alone has the fulness of grace and perfect obedience. Our Lord Himself gave her to us for our Mother as He was dying for love of us. She is our abiding evidence of His loving care for us. He is waiting until we learn to trust her to teach us, to lead us to Him. My task here is to remind that He is still waiting for us to discover the true message of Fatima,  to examine the facts as they were revealed, that is, in the order which they were revealed.

To begin with the first:

The Angel of Peace

We show our obedience by heeding the requests of the Angel of Peace and Our Lady of the Rosary. From the beginning, the Angel’s instruction was:

Pray, pray a great deal! The Hearts of Jesus and Mary have designs of mercy for you! Offer unceasingly to the Most High prayers and sacrifices!”

Lucia then asked the Angel how they were to sacrifice themselves. “Offer up everything within your power as a sacrifice to the Lord in an act of reparation for the sins by which He is offended; and of supplication for the conversion of sinners….Above all, accept and bear with submission the sufferings that the Lord may send you.”

So, in our action plan, the first steps are to, “Offer unceasingly to the Most High prayers and sacrifices”, and to “accept and bear with submission the sufferings that the Lord may send” us.

Readers, no other action you may choose to take will be of any avail without obeying this command. We cannot allow ourselves to get distracted by other devotions or the search for ever more knowledge. Although the ongoing trainwreck of this papacy is certainly fascinating we must maintain our focus on obedience to Our Lady’s requests. That, in itself is a very good sacrifice!

The Angel’s Message, Part II

The Angel appeared again in the Fall of the year 1916. We reviewed that visit in a previous post. The message this time was an extraordinary vision of the Most Blessed Sacrament with which the Angel demonstrated to the children the importance of offering adoration and reparation to the Most Holy Trinity.

The vision, and the actions and words of the Angel make a stunning affirmation of the foundational doctrines of our faith:

  • The Angel affirms the doctrine of the Most Holy Trinity, Father, Son and Holy Ghost,
  • The Real presence of our Lord Jesus Christ, Body, Blood, Soul and Divinity in the most Blessed Sacrament,
  • The absolute requirement for reparation to God for sacrileges, outrages and indifference which offend God,
  • The Sacred Heart of Jesus and the Immaculate Heart of Mary are united; that is,  devotions to both Hearts is essential.
  • Lastly, the Angel affirms again that Jesus Christ is outraged by the ungratefulness of men towards His Precious, saving gift of His Body and Blood and we are called to make reparation for these crimes and console Him.

God willing, there will be two more summary  installments; the next on Our Lady of the Rosary’s six visits between May 13 and October 13, 1917, to be followed by a summary of the apparitions to Sister Maria Lúcia.  I hope they will provide a succinct, clear resource for you.

In closing, note please that the sequence is important. In short, the Angel’s visits set a context, warned of the problem: sacrilege,  and prepared for Our Lady’s message. Note also that the reparative devotion of the First Saturdays is essential to obtaining the necessary grace for a humbled, contrite pope and bishops to consecrate Russia to the Immaculata as Our Lady requires.

Thank you for reading and for your prayers and encouragement. To those who have attempted to spread the message by sharing Return to Fatima with others, please do not feel disheartened. We must always give Our Good Lord thanks in all things!

God bless you all and Mary keep you close to her Immaculate Heart!

Pray the Rosary and confound satan and those who serve him!

. Immaculate Heart of Mary, Queen of our hearts, Mother of the Church, do thou offer to the Eternal Father the Precious Blood of Our Lord Jesus Christ, for the conversion of poor sinners, especially our Pontiff.

The value of little souls

“It is God’s Will that in this world souls shall dispense to each other, by prayer, the treasures of Heaven” (Saint Thérèse)

Saint Thérèse of Lisieux has such down-to-earth and practical advice for us; and her simple clarity is a welcome remedy for the jarring cacophony of voices clamoring to be heard. One of the many dangers of this time is that the devil foments discord among us. But Saint Thérèse, the Little Flower of Carmel shows us how to foil satan and turn criticism and other causes of dissension into channels of grace.

From The Autobiography of St. Thérèse of Lisieux

The Imperfect Soul

“…That you should be found imperfect is just what is best. Here is your harvest. . . . Should earthly creatures think you devoid of holiness, they rob you of nothing, and you are none the poorer: it is they who lose. For is there anything more sweet than the inward joy of thinking well of our neighbor? . . . “As for myself I am glad and rejoice, not only when I am looked upon as imperfect, but above all when I feel that it is true. Compliments, on the contrary, do but displease me.” . . . “Honors are always dangerous. What poisonous food is served daily to those in high positions! What deadly fumes of incense! A soul must be well detached from herself to pass unscathed through it all.”
