A Friend of the Devil is a Friend of Mine…

By their friends…

We have often discussed the role of the “errors of Russia” in relation to the Message of Fatima, the Apocalypse and the current papacy. Lately, the Bergoglian avalache has been picking up speed and this morning, Sandro Magister pointed out some interesting developments in the reign of this unfortunate pope. The following excerpts are brief, for the full article please see Sandro Magister,  The Communists the Pope Likes. And Vice Versa“.

Magister begins by noting

… the collaboration with “Avvenire,” the newspaper of the Italian episcopal conference, of the satirical comics author Sergio Staino, with a Sunday strip entitled “Hello, Jesus!”

Here the surprise lies in the fact that Staino is an unwavering communist, was a “flower child” and a champion of free love, was until a few months ago the director of “L’Unità,” the defunct newspaper of the Italian communist party and then of the parties that succeeded it, and is the honorary president of the UAAR, the Union of Atheists and Rationalist Agnostics.

The absentminded Jesus of his strips still lives in Nazareth with Joseph and Mary, gives his father a hand in the woodshop, but his head is already elsewhere, looking to the time when he will leave to finally become – in Staino’s words – “the first of the socialists, the first to fight for the poor.”

Interviewed in “Avvenire” on the day of his debut, Staino recounted that some time ago, when Pope Francis, during a “long telephone conversation” with Slow Food founder Carlo Petrini, was told that back in 1948 Staino’s mother had been denied sacramental absolution for having voted for the communist party, the pope burst out laughing: “Tell the mother of this friend of yours that I will give her that absolution.”

This does not change the fact that his arrival has provoked a deluge of protests. Including that of the newspaper’s editor, in the person of the secretary general of the Italian episcopal conference, Bishop Nunzio Galantino, whose words were reported to the readers of “Avvenire” by the paper’s director, Marco Tarquinio: “I do not agree, because I do not understand just what added value comes to our newspaper from Staino’s strips.”

And it is precisely here that the instructive part of the affair can be grasped. Because now there is proof that Galantino’s power over the episcopal conference and over its newspaper no longer counts like it did when Pope Francis appointed him secretary general and de facto his sole lieutenant, with the effect that every word and decision of his came down as if from the pope himself.

Today the episcopal conference has a new president in the person of Cardinal Gualtiero Bassetti, who indeed for his part is very close to Francis and much more skillful in understanding and seconding his wishes.

While Galantino’s fall from the pope’s graces is still more evident, and the Staino case is glaring proof of this.

Not only, in fact, did the director of “Avvenire” decide on his own, without having “asked for authorization beforehand from the editor,” but he defended in the pages of “Avvenire” the justice of this decision of his, moreover making public the uninfluential contrary opinion of Bishop Galantino.

To whom he said goodbye at the very moment he was welcoming Staino, for his part “absolved” by Pope Francis.

*

The second episode saw another newspaper in the leading role, “Il Manifesto,” the only one in Italy that proclaims alongside its masthead: “Communist daily.”

On Thursday, October 5 – such a coincidence, right at the hundredth anniversary of the “October Revolution” – “Il Manifesto” went to the newsstands with a book containing three speeches by Pope Francis to the “popular movements,” which he convened for the first time in Rome in 2014, then in Bolivia in 2015, and then again in Rome in 2016.

Interviewed by “Avvenire,” the director of “Il Manifesto,” Norma Rangeri, explained the decision:

“We feel these messages of the pope to be our own, and we want to bring to our readers the radicality and simplicity of these words of his. […] They contain a new idea of politics, the pope also cites Esther Ballestrino de Careaga, for her conception of politics. She is a communist of Paraguayan origin.” (And she was a chemistry teacher of the young Jorge Mario Bergoglio, who met her two daughters during his visit to Paraguay, in July of 2015).

Sandro Magister,  “The Communists the Pope Likes. And Vice Versa”.

Evensong comment: I added the emphasis in red above. And will just note that Galantino appears to have been simply another “useful idiot” as the marxists are wont to call the liberals they use and then discard when they have served their purpose. There is a lesson for them in this episode, but they are unable to learn.

In numerous posts, we have discussed the role of the “errors of Russia” in the context of the message of Fatima, the Apocalypse, and the papacy of Jorge Mario Bergoglio.

September 1, 1910

Today, we begin September by celebrating Pope Francis!

Yes, it is time that we honor the man, his deep and merciful thoughts and his actions by which it is said a man may best be known. On this day 107 years ago, in his Oath Against Modernism, Pope St. Pius X foretold this man, Pope Francis, our first truly humble and merciful pope, and wrote of him. Indeed, his great encyclical Pascendi Domenici Gregis, written in September, 1907 is filled with prophecies about our little Argentinian treasure – reading the words of St. Pius X, it is hard to believe that he did not have our beloved Bergoglio’s illustrious words on Love, “Amoris Laetitia” in mind as he wrote it.

Forgive my sarcasm; I arose this morning to find yet another update on the assault to the faith by Pope Francis the Humble® – covered in articles by Edward Pentin here and Rorate here . One would think that after four hellish years, I would learn to avoid news of this pope before my coffee….

Let’s take a look at at better time, when we had the brave and clear truths spoken by our truly Holy Father, one worthy of the name, Pope St. Pius X, who presciently warned of the False Prophet and his followers who prowl about the Church seeking  the ruin of souls.

“The purpose of this is, then, not that dogma may be tailored according to what seems better and more suited to the culture of each age; rather, that the absolute and immutable truth preached by the apostles from the beginning may never be believed to be different, may never be understood in any other way.” (Pope St. Pius X)

The last truly saintly Pope was Pius X, who promulgated the Oath Against Modernism on September 1, 1910, 107 years ago today. It is instructive to review this oath, which was abolished by Paul VI and is so widely scorned, reviled or simply ignored by those who currently occupy the visible Church today.

Saint Pius X, pray for us, pray for our priests!

With the death of this holy pope, the dark force of modernism was once again free to poison the faith, While ostensibly orthodox, Pope Benedict XV dismantled St. Pius’s Sodalitium Pianum, the network established to assure orthodoxy in the seminaries. Subsequent popes also contributed their efforts to undermining orthodoxy in sundry ways. Although these popes gave lip service to Our Lady’s message at Fatima, none actually went so far as to obey her. And so, modernism flourished under even those pre-Vatican II popes who appeared to be orthodox, until it burst into florid putrescence in the revolutionary Second Vatican Ecumenical Council.

As you review the Oath Against Modernism that follows, bear in mind that every single Conciliar Pope from John XXIII through Benedict XVI had originally sworn this solemn oath, which of course, was violated by those same popes during and after Vatican II. Every single pope until Francis, the quintessential modernist pope. The very apotheosis of Vatican II.

“Beware of false prophets, who come to you in the clothing of sheep, but inwardly they are ravening wolves. By their fruits you shall know them. Do men gather grapes of thorns, or figs of thistles?Even so every good tree brings forth good fruit, and the evil tree brings forth evil fruit. A good tree cannot bring forth evil fruit, neither can an evil tree bring forth good fruit.” (Matt 7, 15-18)

In the re-presentation below, we have taken the liberty of numbering the points and emphasising some of the more pertinent. The original is available here.

 THE OATH AGAINST MODERNISM

To be sworn to by all clergy, pastors, confessors, preachers, religious superiors, and professors in philosophical-theological seminaries.

“I . . . . firmly embrace and accept each and every definition that has been set forth and declared by the unerring teaching authority of the Church, especially those principal truths which are directly opposed to the errors of this day.

  1. And first of all, I profess that God, the origin and end of all things, can be known with certainty by the natural light of reason from the created world (see Rom. 1:90), that is, from the visible works of creation, as a cause from its effects, and that, therefore, His existence can also be demonstrated.
  2. Secondly, I accept and acknowledge the external proofs of revelation, that is, divine acts and especially miracles and prophecies as the surest signs of the divine origin of the Christian religion and I hold that these same proofs are well adapted to the understanding of all eras and all men, even of this time.
  3. Thirdly, I believe with equally firm faith that the Church, the guardian and teacher of the revealed word, was personally instituted by the real and historical Christ when He lived among us, and that the Church was built upon Peter, the prince of the apostolic hierarchy, and his successors for the duration of time.
  4. Fourthly, I sincerely hold that the doctrine of faith was handed down to us from the apostles through the orthodox Fathers in exactly the same meaning and always in the same purport. Therefore, I entirely reject the heretical misrepresentation that dogmas evolve and change from one meaning to another different from the one which the Church held previously. I also condemn every error according to which, in place of the divine deposit which has been given to the spouse of Christ to be carefully guarded by her, there is put a philosophical figment or product of a human conscience that has gradually been developed by human effort and will continue to develop indefinitely.
  5. Fifthly, I hold with certainty and sincerely confess that faith is not a blind sentiment of religion welling up from the depths of the subconscious under the impulse of the heart and the motion of a will trained to morality; but faith is a genuine assent of the intellect to truth received by hearing from an external source. By this assent, because of the authority of the supremely truthful God, we believe to be true that which has been revealed and attested to by a personal God, our creator and lord.
  6. Furthermore, with due reverence, I submit and adhere with my whole heart to the condemnations, declarations, and all the prescripts contained in the encyclical Pascendi and in the decree Lamentabili, especially those concerning what is known as the history of dogmas.
  7. I also reject the error of those who say that the faith held by the Church can contradict history, and that Catholic dogmas, in the sense in which they are now understood, are irreconcilable with a more realistic view of the origins of the Christian religion.
  8. I also condemn and reject the opinion of those who say that a well-educated Christian assumes a dual personality-that of a believer and at the same time of a historian, as if it were permissible for a historian to hold things that contradict the faith of the believer, or to establish premises which, provided there be no direct denial of dogmas, would lead to the conclusion that dogmas are either false or doubtful.
  9. Likewise, I reject that method of judging and interpreting Sacred Scripture which, departing from the tradition of the Church, the analogy of faith, and the norms of the Apostolic See, embraces the misrepresentations of the rationalists and with no prudence or restraint adopts textual criticism as the one and supreme norm.
  10. Furthermore, I reject the opinion of those who hold that a professor lecturing or writing on a historico-theological subject should first put aside any preconceived opinion about the supernatural origin of Catholic tradition or about the divine promise of help to preserve all revealed truth forever; and that they should then interpret the writings of each of the Fathers solely by scientific principles, excluding all sacred authority, and with the same liberty of judgment that is common in the investigation of all ordinary historical documents.
  11. Finally, I declare that I am completely opposed to the error of the modernists who hold that there is nothing divine in sacred tradition; or what is far worse, say that there is, but in a pantheistic sense, with the result that there would remain nothing but this plain simple fact-one to be put on a par with the ordinary facts of history-the fact, namely, that a group of men by their own labor, skill, and talent have continued through subsequent ages a school begun by Christ and His apostles.
  12. I firmly hold, then, and shall hold to my dying breath the belief of the Fathers in the charism of truth, which certainly is, was, and always will be in the succession of the episcopacy from the apostles.

The purpose of this is, then, not that dogma may be tailored according to what seems better and more suited to the culture of each age; rather, that the absolute and immutable truth preached by the apostles from the beginning may never be believed to be different, may never be understood in any other way.

I promise that I shall keep all these articles faithfully, entirely, and sincerely, and guard them inviolate, in no way deviating from them in teaching or in any way in word or in writing. Thus I promise, this I swear, so help me God.”

After Vatican II, Pope Paul VI (who had, himself, sworn this very Oath) abolished the Oath. The post-Vatican Catholic Church then, is built on the shifting sands of Modernism, which is a heresy.

This is the Age of Apostasy, and Pope Francis is bringing us to its calamitous close. The chastisement will only be ended by the Immaculate Mother of God, through a pope who is chastened, truly humble and obedient in performing the long-awaited  Consecration of Russia with the surviving Bishops.

Please remember, pray the Rosary and confound satan and all his works and pomps.

Immaculate Heart of Mary, Queen of our hearts, Mother of the Church, do thou offer to the Eternal Father the Precious Blood of Our Lord Jesus Christ, for the conversion of poor sinners, especially our Pontiff.
Most Sacred Heart of Jesus, Thy kingdom come! Viva Cristo Rey!
Immaculate Heart of Mary, pray for us now and at the hour of our death.
St. Joseph, protect us, protect our families, protect our priests.
St. Michael the Archangel, defend us in battle.

Please pray for the Consecration of Russia to the Immaculate Heart of Mary!

The Gates of Hell

“Organizers …  kept the church doors closed tightly during Bonino’s talk to prevent the sound of prayer from entering the church.” (Lifesite News)

Why were Catholics shut out of their own church for offering prayers of reparation, while abortionist Emma Bonino was honored within the church? Who is Emma Bonino? Pope Francis calls her  a “forgotten great” and has commended her support of unbridled islamic invasion of Europe. In her talk at the church,  Bonino asserted  the flood of immigrants is  necessary to supplement Italy’s low birthrate, although she is silent regarding her role in the death of Italy’s future.

This brings to mind St. Padre Pio’s prophetic quote,

“The day that people lose their horror for abortion will be the most terrible day for humanity. Abortion is not only a homicide but also a suicide. … The suicide of the human race will be understood by those who will see the earth populated by the elderly and depopulated of children: burnt as a desert,”  (St. Padre Pio)

Let’s destroy the family!

Indeed, Bonino, from a small start with her death-dealing bicycle pump, and her own abortion, can claim magnificent success: already over 6 million Italian babies have been eliminated.  As she led the feminist revolution in Italy in the mid-seventies,  Bonino’s rallying cry was, “No longer wives, mothers and daughters! Let’s destroy the family!(Lifesite News)

Catholic media report that the Bishop responsible for the church which hosted Bonino was silent. Of course he was. Pope Francis is not so merciful if one dares to assert the Catholic faith against his cronies.  And so we see that under the Bishop of Rome, within the church  the culture of death and corruption reigns:  Victor Fernandez, Luigi Capozzi, Battista Ricca, Emma Bonino,  within the church and the doors tightly  shut against the prayers of the faithful. Thus we see now the “sacrilege, outrage and indifference which so offend Our Lord”, and St. Michael, the Angel of Fatima warned about.  And so we too pray with those cast out from the occupied Church.

“Most Holy Trinity, Father, Son and Holy Ghost, I adore Thee profoundly and I offer Thee the Most Precious Body, Blood, Soul and Divinity of the same Son Jesus Christ, present in the tabernacles of the world, in reparation for all the sacrileges, outrages and indifferences by which He Himself is offended. And by the infinite merits of His Most Sacred Heart, and the Immaculate Heart of Mary, I beg of Thee the conversion of poor sinners.”

Lethal Wounds Festering

“The lethal wound festering in the very body of the holy church”,  is a reference to priestly impurity; a  pungent description written by St. Peter Damien († 1072) in his monumental work, The Book of Gomorrah.

A reader pointed out that it has been a very long while since we had an update on Pope Francis and the clerical pederasty crisis. As it happens, I had been about to post the following, but noticed that several excellent blogs have bested me, most notably Mr. Atila Guimaraes at Tradition in Action. I hope you’ll read his articles if you have missed them. One article recounted how a notorious priest abuser, Fr. Inzoli, was defrocked under Pope Benedict XVI, but was “mercifully” reinstated by Pope Francis. Of course, the man went on to offend more and now has met with civil sanctions. Isn’t it strange how selective Bergoglian mercy is? Never hampered by rigidity!

And so, belatedly, we offer our post on the progress of “Zero Tolerance” in the Bergoglian Church.

Thank heavens for our good and humble Pope Francis who early on in his ministry as the Vicar of Christ on earth assured us,

“I feel compelled to personally take on all the evil that some priests – quite a few in number, (although) obviously not compared to the number of all priests – to personally ask for forgiveness for the damage they have done for having sexually abused children,” he told members of the International Catholic Child Bureau.

“The church is aware of this … personal, moral damage carried out by men of the church, and we will not take one step backward with regards to how we will deal with this problem, and to the sanctions that must be imposed.

“On the contrary, we have to be even stronger. Because you cannot interfere with children,” (Reuters, April 11, 2014)

Catholics all over the world rejoiced that at last, we had a “zero tolerance pope”  as he himself proclaimed on May 26, 2014; although several of us crabby old trads took a more jaundiced view, noting his deep affection for his dear friend Msgr. Ricca.

But then came a disheartening deluge of actions which belied this Pope’s resolute stand against sodomitical clerics. We have posted on Pope Francis’s proclivities for corrupt priests and prelates in numerous articles, see “The Figure of a Woman, Anticipating 2017“, “The Wrath of the Lavender Mafia”,  The Vatican’s Lavender Heel“, and “The Danneels Effect“.

And so, we were aware of the Pope’s favoritism towards priests who were openly supportive of homosexuals in the consecrated life. The list is long, from Ricca, to Dominican Father Timothy Radcliffe (who has compared sodomy to the Blessed Sacrament),  to Bishop “Tucho – Heal Me with Your Mouth” Fernandez, here, his friend who helped him write Amoris laetitia. And then there’s  Cardinal de Kesel, who is in a class all by himself, but we will deal with him later.

For now, let’s let Anne Barrett Doyle of Bishop Accountability fill us in on the most egregious example of Pope Francis ignoring and allowing priestly sex abuse of deaf children in their care. According to Doyle’s  article here, Pope Francis ignored pleas from several deaf persons who had been abused at the Antonio Provolo Institute (for education and care of deaf children) in Verona, Italy in 2014.

The abusers in what has tragically become a modern  tradition, were simply transferred to Argentina, where they happily set up shop and proceeded to do what they do best, abuse the bodies and souls of those poor children who are entrusted to them.

From Bishop Accountability:

Argentine authorities arrested this week Father Nicola Corradi, S.M., an Italian priest reported to the Vatican in 2008 or 2009 and again in 2014 by deaf survivors in Verona, Italy. Now 82, Corradi is accused of a range of more recent abuses in Argentina, including forcing hearing-impaired children, ages 10-12, to have oral sex with each other. The alleged crimes occurred at the Antonio Provolo Institute for Deaf Children in the Mendoza province of Argentina.

Authorities charged Corradi, and four other adults, including Rev. Horacio Hugo Corbacho S.M., of molesting eight children at the school. Since the arrest, a total of around 60 children have been identified as possible victims.

In May 2014, an Italian survivors’ group issued a public plea (see 1, 2 and 3) to Pope Francis to bring to justice Corradi and 15 or so other reported child molesters who had worked at Istituto Provolo, a school for deaf children in Verona, Italy. The survivors’ plea to the Pope included the alarming news that Corradi and three other alleged Verona abusers were currently working at the order’s two schools for deaf children in Argentina (one in La Plata and the other in Mendoza).

As Supreme Shepherd, Francis sets the standard, and so the abuse flares again. For those of you who read us regularly, the foregoing comes as no surprise.  In Nov., 2015 we wrote about Pope Francis’s promotion of Archbishop de Kesel in “Appallingly Clear“. But since that post was written,  Pope Francis has made him  Cardinal de Kesel.

Presage of Victory?

An interesting thing happened on October 7, the day we honor Our Lady by her preferred title, Our Lady of the Rosary. You surely remember that 99 years ago, on October 13, 1917, our Blessed Mother identified herself as Our Lady of the Rosary in her last visit to Fatima.

Our Lady of the Rosary has won many battles against enemies of the Church. The earliest that I have found was the victory of Simon de Montfort on September 12, 1213 over the albigensian heretics who were in many respects similar to the neo-gnostics of modern times. Montfort’s mere 700 knights were victorious over many thousands of albigensians because Saint Dominic had taught them the power of the Rosary and had prayed for their success the entire time they fought. After their victory, Simon de Montfort established a Chapel to Our Lady of the Rosary at the Church of Saint-Jacques. Then there was the great victory of Lepanto where Catholic forces empowered by the holy Rosary trounced the muslim Turks and sent them running, thus saving Christendom from annihilation at the hands of the “religion of peace”. Even as recently as 1964, in Brazil, the power of the Rosary was used successfully to rout a pro-communist dictator after Cardinal de Barros Camara and Dona Amelia Bastos led Catholic women in a Fatima-inspired Rosary Crusade. Ah, but that was before the Springtime of Vatican II, wasn’t it?

Yes, the Rosary, when combined with reparation and a firm will to prevail for the glory of God, will conquer all enemies. At present we do not yet see it being used effectively, but perhaps we may before long. The Rosary and Reparation Crusade of the Society of St. Pius X is proceeding and even many who are not supporters of the Society, but simply concerned diocesan Catholics are joining in. Our Lady, as we have been assured by Sister Lucia, has promised us that nothing we ask for by this means will be denied.

“The Rosary is the prayer that always accompanies my life; It is also the prayer of the simple and the saints … it is the prayer of my heart.”

As Eponymous Flower reported,  for her feast day Pope Francis “honored” her with his tweet, “The Rosary is the prayer that always accompanies my life; It is also the prayer of the simple and the saints … it is the prayer of my heart.”

And we know that what the Holy Father says is true because as he himself told us in 2014, he snatched the rosary from the hands of the body of his dead confessor, saying, “give me half your mercy.” He keeps it in a pouch under his cassock, perhaps near his heart? So who says that modernists do not love the Rosary?

And so we have another example of lightning striking the dome St. Peter’s on the same day of the Pope’s tweet to honor Our Lady of the Rosary. That makes twice in recent times, and never before in recorded history. The last time was on the feast day of Our Lady of Lourdes, February 11, 2013, when the St. Gallen Group triumphed with the resignation of Pope Benedict XVI. Funny how these episodes correlate with modernist popes and Our Lady’s feast days.

It does give one pause. If things run in threes, we might ask what is in store for December 8th.

Please, pray the Rosary and confound satan and all those who serve him,

Immaculate Heart of Mary, Queen of our hearts, Mother of the Church, do thou offer to the Eternal Father the Precious Blood of Our Lord Jesus Christ, for the conversion of poor sinners, especially our Pontiff.

~ by evensong, for love of the Immaculate Heart of Mary.
Vouchsafe that I may praise thee, O Sacred Virgin. Give me strength against thine enemies.

A Complaint Against Francis

By the grace of God and the law of Church, a complaint against Francis, Roman Pontiff, on account of danger to the Faith and grave harm to souls and the common good of the Holy Catholic Church.

“they shall be ‘like sharp arrows in the hand of the powerful’ Mary to pierce her enemies.”That they may extinguish the fire in the House of God.”

Today, Michael Matt, Christopher Ferrara and John Vennari have made Church history. They have done what no member of the episcopacy was willing to do. They have taken action to speak the truth boldly, to defend the doctrine of the faith from the man who calls himself the Bishop of Rome and currently occupies the See of Peter.

John Vennari, Michael Matt and Christopher Ferrara are not the brave and faithful prelates we have been praying for, but they are the brave and faithful laymen we have been given. And they are doing what no Bishop, Archbishop or Cardinal will do, they are defending the faith against Pope Francis.

The following post is taken verbatim from Mr. John Vennari’s Catholic Family News.  We have not edited it in any way. We hope that you will read it prayerfully, forward to others, and most importantly pray for all concerned and if at all possible have Masses offered for these men and for the Pope and hierarchy.

“The purpose of this is, then, not that dogma may be tailored according to what seems better and more suited to the culture of each age; rather, that the absolute and immutable truth preached by the apostles from the beginning may never be believed to be different, may never be understood in any other way.” (Pope St. Pius X)

The last truly saintly Pope was Pius X, who promulgated the Oath Against Modernism on September 1, 1910, 106 years ago today. It is instructive to review this oath, which was abolished by Paul VI and is so widely scorned, reviled or simply ignored by those who currently occupy the visible Church today.

False ecumenism and jihad

After the brutal islamic ritual murder of Father Jacques Hamel in France recently, the Catholic world waited in vain for any sign of protest from Pope Francis. This coldly calculated silence from the Bergoglian Vatican will only serve to welcome more such attacks on our priests and faithful. In order to understand what has brought us to this point, where islamists can murder our priests with impunity while our Most Humble and Merciful Pontiff® castigates Catholics, we offer a post from June, 2014 wherein John Vennari of Catholic Family News explains this phenomenon.

Francis and four points of Apostate Action
Islamic prayers to be held at the Vatican
by John Vennari

False Ecumenism and Jihad

This Sunday, June 8, Pope Francis will allow for the first time in history Islamic prayers from the Quoran to be recited at the Vatican. The service is said to be in the cause of Peace in the Middle East (see report below). Members of Judaism will be part of the interfaith gathering as well. This radical initiative is scandalous on at least four counts:

1) The Prayers of Islam worship a false god; not the true God who is the Blessed Trinity; not the true God Jesus Christ, who said “No man comes to the Father but through Me.” Speaking on the modernist notion that various religions worship the same God, the eminent theologian Father Reginald Garrigou-Lagrange explained that such a tenet denies the principle of non-contradiction, which is the most fundamental principle of reason. Father Garrigou-Lagrange explains, “It is injurious to say that God would consider with equanimity all religions while one teaches truth and one teachers error, when one promises the good and one promises the evil. To say this would be to affirm that God would be indifferent to good and evil, to what is honest and shameful.”[1]

The Mysterious Necessity of the Mystery of Iniquity

It would seem that we have not yet exhausted the implications of Pope Benedict XVI’s abdication. Sandro Magister has picked up on an aspect that has tended to be overlooked.  In Tuesday’s article (here) he notes the significance of Archbishop Gänswein’s comments of May 20.

Benedict XVi Resigns and Lightning strikes, Feb. 11, 2013.
Benedict XVi Resigns and Lightning strikes, Feb. 11, 2013.

Gänswein – with the weight of one who is in the most intimate contact with the “pope emeritus” in that he is his secretary – had said that Joseph Ratzinger “has by no means abandoned the office of Peter,” but on the contrary has made it “an expanded ministry, with an active member and a contemplative member,” in “a collegial and synodal dimension, almost a shared ministry.” …

“As of February 11, 2013, the papal ministry is no longer what it was before. It is and remains the foundation of the Catholic Church; and nonetheless it is a foundation that Benedict XVI has profoundly and lastingly transformed in his pontificate of exception (Ausnahmepontifikat).”

The formula, emphasized by Gänswein with the use of the German word, is not accidental. It contains a transparent reference to the “state of exception” theorized by one of the greatest and most talked-about political philosophers of the twentieth century, Carl Schmitt (1888-1985).

According to this theory, a “state of exception” is the dramatic hour of history in which the ordinary rules are suspended and the sovereign imposes new rules on his own. …

A word to the wise. Where Gänswein, citing the book by Regoli, refers to the “group of St. Gallen” and its role in the conclaves of 2005 and 2013, the reference is to the cardinals who used to gather periodically in the Swiss city of St. Gallen and who first opposed to the election of Ratzinger and then supported the election of Bergoglio.

The group included the cardinals Carlo Maria Martini, Basil Hume, Cormac Murphy-O’Connor, Achille Silvestrini, Karl Lehmann, Walter Kasper, and Godfried Danneels, the last two of these being particularly dear to Pope Francis, in spite of the fact that Danneels was proven to have attempted in 2010 a cover-up of the sexual offenses of the then-bishop of Bruges, Roger Vangheluwe, against his young nephew. The above remarks are merely a preface to introduce an analysis by Guido Ferro Canale, which Magister then offered.

Who Killed Father Hamel?

This Tuesday past, an elderly priest, Father Jaques Hamel, was the first to usher in the age of islamic triumph that the current Pope has been inviting by his actions and rhetoric since the start of his pontificate. In this, he is perfectly in line with the example of his predecessor John Paul II whom he recently canonized. The elderly priest had his throat slit in ritual islamic fashion, while being forced to kneel before the altar where he was offering Mass.

They are at war, whether we are, or not.
They are at war, whether we are, or not.

Only the most obtuse would fail to see that islam is at war with the West and especially with the Catholic Church. Ever since Pope John Paul II kissed the Quran, the leaders of the Church have done all in their power to assure muslims that the Church will never even hint at the truth. Even after the brazen murder of an innocent Catholic priest during Mass, Pope Francis refuses to speak the truth (source) and thus fails to protect his flock.

This latest but most symbolic attack did not come about as an entirely unpredictable event. There have been several attacks, such as the Charlie Hebdo (Jan. 2015) and the Bataclan (Nov. 2015) and the Bastille Day massacre most recently. What has been the French response?

After the Charlie Hebdo attack, the French Ministry of defense launched the Sentinelle Organization. Its mandate: “to protect the French people and provide security in support of the Internal Security Forces at the most sensitive locations in Paris and in the provinces.” Sounds pretty good, right?

On the night of November 13, 2015, six armed members of this elite military group stood at the entrance of the Bataclan during the concert. Yet they took no action, even as the carnage continued. There was certainly much noise from the ongoing gunshots and screams of the victims. Yet these elite forces remained impassive, unresponsive at the entrance. (source and source).

Why?  Because their rules of engagement did not permit it. These men were trained and armed and they outnumbered the attackers, yet did not engage because their rules did not “allow” them to. … Fascinating, isn’t it?

And now, let’s look at last Tuesday’s ritual murder, that quintessentially islamic event. To slit the throat of a fragile, elderly priest in the midst of offering worship presents a powerful symbol of the strength and determination of their religion doesn’t it? You can easily see the logic in their actions, once you descend to their level.
