Sister Lúcia of Fatima- Updated

For Sister Lúcia of Fatima, on the 110th anniversary of her birth, with love:

“Jesus wants to use you to make me known and loved. He wants to establish the Devotion to my Immaculate Heart in the world.”
Sister Lúcia of Fatima, Truly, a Saint for these times

Sister Lúcia of Fatima has the distinction of being canonized in her lifetime by the Blessed Virgin Mary herself. When Our Lady visited the three shepherd children 99 years ago on June 13, 1917, Lucia pleaded with her,

“From now on we must choose sides. Either we are for God or we are for the devil. There is no other possibility.”

“I would like to ask you also to take us to Heaven.”

“Yes”, Our Lady answered, “I will take Francisco and Jacinta soon. You, however, are to stay here a longer time. Jesus wants to use you to make me known and loved. He wants to establish the Devotion to my Immaculate Heart in the world. I promise salvation to those who embrace it and their souls will be loved by God as flowers placed by myself to adorn His throne.”

Lúcia was filled with sadness to hear the news that she was to be left alone in the world, and cried out, “Am I going to stay here alone?”

“No, my daughter.” Our Lady responded tenderly to Lúcia, whose eyes were brimming with tears,

“Does this cause you to suffer a great deal? I will never leave you! My Immaculate Heart will be your refuge and the way that will lead you to God.“

Although all three children were promised Heaven, it was to Lúcia that Our Lady made the promise that she would be with her always. What a remarkable thing it must have been for that child to hear from the Mother of God that, “Jesus wants to use you to make me known and loved.“

This world is dying under the errors which have been growing and spreading ever since the arch-heretic Martin Luther revolted against the reign of Our Lord Jesus Christ, tearing Christendom asunder. In response to this grave attack, Jesus requested public devotion to His Sacred Heart. He specifically asked that the image of this adorable Heart be placed publicly, revered publicly. We all know that this was not done and so the Masonic revolution, which was not publicly known at that time, grew in power until it finally erupted in bloody violence in the French Revolution, in which the King was beheaded and the Church suppressed and persecuted.

In time, this same satanic force even penetrated the Vatican, and at this point our Lord Jesus Christ sent His Blessed Mother to Fatima with a message, “Jesus wants to use you to make me known and loved. He wants to establish the Devotion to my Immaculate Heart in the world.”

The Holy Trinity and the Holy Family

The Sacred Hearts of our Lord Jesus Christ and His most pure and Immaculate Mother are inseparable. And we know that this self-same Mother is also the most pure and perfect Spouse of the Holy Ghost, and the most beloved and treasured child of the Eternal Father. We know as well that this loving Father entrusted these two most beloved beings, Jesus and Mary, to St. Joseph to guard and protect them from the evil and hostile powers of the Lord of the World and his minions. And now, in these dark and calamitous times when our families and our very faith are under attack from those who should protect and nurture it, we turn again to St. Joseph, to the Holy Family, inseparably united to the Most Holy Trinity, to keep us safe in the faith of all times.

In times of trial, go to St. Joseph!

Jesus, Mary and Joseph, Holy Family, bless our family, bless our Church!
Jesus, Mary and Joseph, Holy Family, bless our family, bless our Church!

Dear readers, we know that the Sacred Hearts of our Lord Jesus Christ and His most pure and Immaculate Mother are inseparable.

Readers, do not be surprised if soon the few small certainties and comforts of the faith are soon taken from us, for as Cardinal Manning said,

These are times of sifting. Our Divine Lord is standing in the Church: “His fan is in His hand, and He will thoroughly cleanse His (own) and He will gather the grain into His barn, and will burn up the chaff with unquenchable fire.” It is a time of trial, when ‘some of the learned shall fall’, and those only shall be saved who are steadfast to the end. … Saint Alphonsus says: ‘Hence St. Bonaventure says that in the Mass God manifests to us all the love that He has borne us, and includes in it, as in a compendium, all His benefits. On this account the Devil has always endeavored to abolish the Mass throughout the world by means of heretics, making them the precursors of Antichrist who, before all things, will endeavor to abolish, and in fact will, in punishment for the sins of men, succeed in abolishing the Holy Sacrifice of the Altar, according to the prediction of Daniel: ‘And strength was given him against the continual sacrifice because of sins.’

We must understand, and help others to understand, the importance of using the precious little time we have left to bond ourselves as securely as possible to the Sacred Heart of Jesus and the Immaculate Heart of Mary. To this end, I have posted often on Total Consecration to the Sacred Heart of Jesus through the Immaculate Heart of Mary.

The Open Heart

For love of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, we offer this essay of Solange Hertz, from her book (highly recommended!), The Thought of Their Heart, on Devotion to the Sacred Heart and the Holy Rosary”.

The Open Heart

by Solange Strong Hertz

“I will reveal My love to them more and more …”

The history of devotion to the Sacred Heart is in a very real sense a gradual revelation of the secret life of the Church. Its prologue, written in the heart of St. John as he reclined against the Lord’s breast at the Last Supper, broadcasts its first rhythms to the world, setting the tempo for the dramatic rending on Calvary. Veneration for the wound inflicted there seems to have been the initial form of the cult among the faithful. From this wound, the “door in the ark,” there gradually issued the proliferation of grace we now know as Sacred Heart devotion, ramifying and increasing through time, space and circumstance to fit all the needs and conditions of worshippers truly seeking intimacy with their Lord.

It elicited tears of repentance, prompted praise, encouraged confident petition and proffered earth’s reparation to heaven for its sins against Love. For centuries the movement developed quietly in the privacy of religious houses and the souls of gifted individuals until it permeated the whole Church in ranks both clerical and lay. In addition to the saints already mentioned, among its devotees must be numbered St. Anselm, St. Frances of Rome, St. Lawrence Justinian, St. Bernardine of Siena, St. Joan of Valois, St. Peter of Alcantara, St. Fidelis of Sigmaringen, St. Antoninus, St. Peter Canisius, St. Francis de Sales— to list but a few of those canonized. Others who spread its benefits are legion. Carthusians, Franciscans, Benedictines, Dominicans, each produced its particular “school” of spirituality based on affection for the wounded Heart of the Savior. The wealth of art, literature, and liturgy both canonical and popular which has come down to us on the subject attests to its vigor and sanctifying power.

Not surprisingly, it was St. John Eudes, the apostle of the Immaculate Heart of Mary, who was instrumental in directing modern piety towards the Heart of her Son. Called by Pope St. Pius X “initiator, teacher and apostle of the liturgical cult of the Sacred Heart,” he had begun by drawing heavily on the writings of the old Cologne Carthusians so as to establish the cult on solid theological ground. By 1672 he had succeeded in obtaining ecclesiastical approval for a Mass of the Sacred Heart to be celebrated in the communities of his own Order, the Congregation of Jesus and Mary.

The very next year, on the feast of St. John the Apostle, December 27, 1673, the torrents of private revelations converged explosively in the Visitation convent at Paray-le-Monial in France. It was there that our Lord, appearing to the humble young nun, St. Margaret Mary Alacoque, chose to set the seal of divine approval on what had until then been a most salutary practice in the Church, but which nevertheless remained a private affair— a kind of “inside track” for fleeter spirits. Our Lord had once told St. Gertrude:

“Whenever you desire to obtain anything from Me, offer Me My Heart, which I have so often given you as a token of our mutual friendship, in union with the love which made Me become man for the salvation of men; and I give you this special mark of friendship, … “

After four great apparitions in Paray from 1673 to 1675, … devotion to the Sacred Heart was soon to be enjoined upon all. If we are to believe the words of St. John the Apostle and the ancient prophets concerning the Heart of God, we who are living three hundred years later must be about to witness nothing less than the last moments of the world. “In the latter days you shall understand these things,” promised Jeremiah. “The THOUGHTS of HIS HEART to all generations: to deliver their souls from death and feed them in famine” (Introit, Mass of the Sacred Heart).

Divine Mercy and the Sacred Heart of Jesus

From time to time, new readers search my archives and discover old posts they had not been aware of. This is a mixed blessing. While some contact me to let me know they are delighted, slightly more often, readers are puzzled or even put off entirely. One particularly contentious subject has been my adamant dismissal of devotion to “the Divine Mercy”. This has caused some readers to reject my writing entirely and while it is a shame to lose a friend, for such my readers are, it cannot be helped.

However, since an explanation has been requested, here is a brief note.

Most Sacred Heart of Jesus, Thy Kingdom Come! Thy will be done!
Most Sacred Heart of Jesus, Thy Kingdom Come! Thy will be done!

In His approved revelations to St. Margaret Mary Alacoque, Our Lord specifically asked for devotion to the image of His Sacred Heart.

In the words of St. Margaret Mary Alacoque herself:

“One day, on the Feast of St. John the Evangelist, after Holy Communion, the Heart of Jesus was represented to me as on a throne, formed of fire and flames, shedding rays on every side and brighter than the sun. The wound which He received upon the Cross was clearly visible; a crown of thorns encircled the Sacred Heart, and it was surmounted by a cross.

“Our divine Savior gave me to understand that those instruments of the Passion signified that the source of all His sufferings had been the boundless love of His Heart for men; that all those torments and insults had been placed before Him, from the first moment of His Incarnation; and that the Cross was, so to say, planted in His Heart, from that moment. And then, from that same moment, He accepted all the sorrows and humiliations which His sacred humanity was to suffer during the course of His mortal life, together with all the outrages to which He was to expose Himself to the end of time for the love of mankind by dwelling amongst them in the Blessed Sacrament.”

“My Savior assured me that He took a singular pleasure in seeing the interior sentiments of His Heart honored under the figure of this heart of flesh in the manner in which it had been represented to me, environed with flames, crowned with thorns, and surmounted by a cross.

He said that He wished that this representation should be publicly exposed in order to touch the insensible hearts of men.

“He promised me, at the same time, that He would shed in abundance the treasures of graces with which His Heart is filled upon the hearts of those who honored Him; and that, wherever this image should be exposed for particular veneration, it should draw down upon the spot every kind of blessing.”

After having so poignantly requested devotion to this Sacred Image of His Heart, why would He then return and ask for devotion to an image of Him which omits His Heart?

Vilnius Image of Divine Mercy

Our Lord Jesus Christ explained to Sister Lucia of Fatima that He desires to see devotion to the Immaculate Heart of Mary placed alongside of devotion to His Most Sacred Heart. Yet today, many believe that after telling Sister Lucia that, He then appeared to Sister Faustina and demanded devotion to an image (supposedly of Him)  without the heart. What happened to make Our Lord decide to contradict His own words asking for the image of His Heart to be honored?

Our Lord said clearly that He intended that the image of His Heart be displayed so that it would “Touch the insensible hearts of men”. When, precisely, did Our Lord rescind that request in His apparitions to Sister Faustina? Until someone provides proof that my Lord Jesus Christ no longer requires devotion to the image of His Sacred Heart, I will honor Him in the way that He has already, over many centuries, requested and approved of with so many miracles.

How is eliminating the image of the Sacred Heart an improvement? Why is it more edifying to remove the image of Our Lord’s Most Sacred Heart?

It seems to me that this strange heartless devotion fits in very well with the rest of the conciliar changes that have denuded the Church of its beauty and grace. I believe that it hurts Our Lord very much for us to forsake the cherished and proven devotion to the Image of His Sacred Heart, which yielded so much beautiful spiritual fruit, so many saints, so many martyrs for this empty, asinine image.

Can you imagine the brave martyrs of the Vendee placing that strange image on their breasts to inspire them as they defend the Faith with their lives? How ludicrous!

Immaculate Heart of Mary
Sorrowful and Immaculate Heart of Mary, our Mother, Pray for Us Now and at the Hour of Our Death. Amen.

I cannot give you some deep theological discourse, only my simple, very practical explanation that the Divine Mercy devotion does not seem, to me, to be any improvement, to offer any additional edification over the current Sacred and Immaculate Hearts devotions which have given us such a profusion of graces and numerous saints and martyrs. Time is short, for me, every minute counts, and I cannot waste my time on what is at best, a doubtfully beneficial devotion.

Please understand that I am not casting aspersions on Sister Faustina, nor am I denying that others seem to have benefitted from the Divine Mercy devotion. That is for the experts and today, everyone who has a blog seems to feel certain that they are not just experts, but better qualified experts than everyone else. I only share my own impressions, and that is that the Divine Mercy devotion is a poor substitute, an obstacle really, to my devotions to the Sacred Heart of Jesus, the Immaculate Heart of Mary, St. Joseph and the Holy Family. Those beautiful devotions are so ingrained in me that no one who knows me can picture me without them. If you find the Divine Mercy devotion helpful, please do not let me scandalize you!

But I will still have to say, why do you pray the Chaplet, when Our Lady asked us for Rosaries? Why do you revere this strange image of Jesus, without His Sacred Heart, without the thorns, without the flames, without the cross? How is that better for you? And do you not see how now, Pope Francis is making use of this same “mercy” which is not the Sacred Heart’s mercy, to change the Church, to lead it away from true mercy, which is always based on Divine Justice? If you doubt me, read closely the words of Our Lord to St. Margaret Mary Alacoque, which show the basis of mercy is justice.

To those who ask me to cite references, please look it up for yourself. Please do not think me rude.  I have learned that any reader can easily ask a question, it takes just a moment of their time, but then I must spend hours, sometimes days, researching, tracking down what they ask for. So, look it up.

The Sacred Heart devotion is a rich source of true Catholic dogma of the faith. I have seen nothing comparable in D. M. devotion. It was forced through by John Paul II. Who kissed the Koran. Who gave us Assisi. Who added on mysteries to Our Lady’s rosary which she did not ask for while ignoring what she did ask for.

One thing we do not have is time; we must make the best use of what time we have. Please – Pray the Rosary for love of the  Immaculate Heart of Mary!

Most Sacred Heart of Jesus, I implore that I may ever love Thee, more and more.

Vouchsafe that I may praise thee, O Sacred Virgin, give me strength against thine enemies.

The Eve of the Feast of the Immaculate Conception

The Divine Word has for His Mother a love infinitely greater than that which He bears to all His other creatures. Mary’s honour is infinitely dear to Him, because she is His Mother.

Now, correlate that absolute truth with the reality of the past nearly 100 years. What honour has the institutional Church shown to the Mother of God, who came to show us the way to return to God? To repeat, what honour has the Church shown to Mary? What Pope has obeyed her?  We offer the following to prepare us for tomorrow’s feast. In this horrible chastisement which is building, the remedy is Mary Immaculate. If we spurn her, there is no other.

The post below is long, and contains much that you already know, and Dom Gueranger’s language is that of the “triumphalist” faithful so despised by our current humble Pope and his church leaders. Dom Gueranger belongs to the past. We have progressed so far beyond that now, haven’t we? The following is from Dom Prosper Gueranger, Vol. 1, The Liturgical Year, available from www.archive.org.

The Immaculate Conception - Because God hates sin!
O Mary conceived without sin, pray for us now and at the hour of our death!
The Immaculate Conception of Mary

At length, on the distant horizon, rises, with a soft and radiant light, the aurora of the Sun which has been so long desired. The happy Mother of the Messias was to be born before the Messias Himself; and this is the day of the Conception of Mary. The earth already possesses a first pledge of the Divine mercy; the Son of Man is near at hand. Two true Israelites, Joachim and Anne, noble branches of the family of David, find their union, after a long barrenness, made fruitful by the Divine omnipotence. Glory be to God, Who has been mindful of His promises, and Who deigns to announce, from the high heavens, the end of the deluge of iniquity, by sending upon the earth the sweet white dove that bears the tidings of peace!

The Feast of the Blessed Virgin’s Immaculate Conception is the most solemn of all those which the Church celebrates during the holy time of Advent; and if the first part of the cycle had to offer us the commemoration of some one of the mysteries of Mary, there was none whose object could better harmonize with the spirit of the Church in this mystic season of expectation. Let us, then, celebrate this solemnity with joy; for the Conception of Mary tells us that the Birth of Jesus is not far off.

The intention of the Church in this Feast, is not only to celebrate the anniversary of the happy moment in which began, in the womb of the pious Anne, the life of the ever-glorious Virgin Mary; but also to honour the sublime privilege, by which Mary was preserved from the Original Stain, which, by a sovereign and universal decree, is contracted by all the children of Adam the very moment they are conceived in their mother’s womb.

The faith of the Catholic Church on the subject of the Conception of Mary is this: that at the very instant when God united the soul of Mary, which He had created, to the body which it was to animate, this ever-blessed soul did not only not contract the stain, which at that same instant defiles every human soul, but was filled with an immeasurable grace which rendered her, from that moment, the mirror of the sanctity of God Himself, as far as this is possible to a creature.

The Church with her infallible authority, declared by the lips of Pius IX, that this article of her faith had been revealed by God Himself. The Definition was received with enthusiasm by the whole of Christendom, and the eighth of December of the year 1854 was thus made one of the most memorable days of the Church’s history.

…  The close ties which were to unite the Son of God with Mary, and which would elicit from Him the tenderest love and the most filial reverence for her, had been present to the Divine thought from all eternity: and the conclusion forces itself upon us that therefore the Divine Word had for this His future Mother a love infinitely greater than that which He bore to all His other creatures. Mary’s honour was infinitely dear to Him, because she was to be His Mother, chosen to be so by His eternal and merciful decrees.

The Son’s love protected the Mother. She, indeed, in her sublime humility willingly submitted to whatever the rest of God’s creatures had brought on themselves, and obeyed every tittle of those laws which were never meant for her; but that humiliating barrier, which confronts every child of Adam at the first moment of his existence, and keeps him from light and grace until he shall have been regenerated by a new birth. Oh! this could not be permitted to stand in Mary’s way, her Son forbade it.

The eternal Father would not do less for the second Eve than He had done for the first, who was created, as was also the first Adam, in the state of original justice, which she afterwards forfeited by sin. The Son of God would not permit that the woman, from whom He was to take the nature of Man, should be deprived of that gift which He had given even to her who was the mother of sin. The Holy Ghost, Who was to overshadow Mary and produce Jesus within her by His Divine operation, would not permit that foul stain, in which we are all conceived, to rest, even for an instant, on this His Bride.

Was it not this grand exemption which God Himself foretold, when the guilty pair, whose children we all are, appeared before Him in the garden of Eden? In the anathema which fell upon the serpent, there was included a promise of mercy to us. ‘I will put enmities,’ said the Lord, ‘between thee and the Woman, and thy seed and her seed: she shall crush thy head.’ (Gen. 3, 15) Thus was salvation promised the human race under the form of a victory over Satan; and this victory is to be gained by the Woman, and she will gain it for us also. … The human race is one day to be avenged not only by God made Man, but also by the Woman miraculously exempted from every stain of sin, in whom the primeval creation, which was in justice and holiness, (Eph. iv. 24) will thus reappear, just as though the Original Sin had never been committed. …

The second Eve is created; and from her own blood (which, with the exception of the element of sin, is the same as that which makes you to be the children of Adam), she is shortly to give you the God-Man, Who proceeds from her according to the flesh, as He proceeds from the Father according to the eternal generation.

And how can we do less than admire and love the incomparable purity of Mary in her Immaculate Conception, when we hear even God, Who thus prepared her to become His Mother, saying to her, in the Divine Canticle, these words of love: ‘Thou art all fair, O My love, and there is not a spot in thee! (Cant. 4, 7) It is the God of all holiness that here speaks; that eye, which sees all things, finds not a vestige, not a shadow of sin; therefore does He delight in her, and admire in her that gift of His Own condescending munificence. We cannot be surprised after this, that Gabriel, when he came down from Heaven to announce the Incarnation to her, should be full of admiration at the sight of that purity, whose beginning was so glorious and whose progress was immeasurable; and that this blessed spirit should bow down profoundly before this young Maid of Nazareth, and salute her with, ‘Hail, O full of grace!’ (Luke 1, 28) …

This truth of Mary’s Immaculate Conception, which was revealed to the Apostles by the Divine Son of Mary, inherited by the Church, taught by the holy fathers, believed by each generation of the Christian people with an ever increasing explicitness, was implied in the very notion of a Mother of God. To believe that Mary was Mother of God, was implicitly to believe that she, on whom this sublime dignity was conferred, had never been defiled with the slightest stain of sin, and that God had bestowed upon her an absolute exemption from sin. …

The Symbol of our faith has therefore received not a new truth, but a new light on a truth which was previously the object of the universal belief. On that great day of the definition, the infernal serpent was again crushed beneath the victorious foot of the Virgin Mother, and the Lord graciously gave us the strongest pledge of His mercy. He still loves this guilty earth, since He has deigned to enlighten it with one of the brightest rays of His Mother’s glory. How this earth of ours exulted! …”

The Feast of the Immaculate Heart of Mary

The Feast of the Immaculate Heart of Mary

Today, on the octave of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary, we honor Our Lady’s Immaculate Heart,in obedience to the will of Christ Himself. When Lucia, speaking for the little shepherds, asked Our Lady to take them to Heaven, Our Lady replied,

“Yes, Jacinta and Francisco, I will take them soon, but you shall remain here for a certain time. Jesus wishes to use you to make me known and loved. He wishes to establish in the world devotion to my Immaculate Heart.” Then, to Lucia’s plaintive plea, “Am I to be left here all alone?”, she responded with a solemn promise, “No, my daughter, you suffer a great deal. Do not be discouraged, I will never abandon you! My Immaculate Heart will be your refuge, and the way which will lead you to God.”

Over twenty years later, Lucia confided in her confessor, Father Aparicio that Our Lady’s promise had indeed been her consolation.

“The Immaculate Heart of Mary is my refuge, especially in the most difficult hours. There, I am always secure. It is the heart of the best of mothers; it is always attentive and it watches over the least of its children. How this certainty encourages and strengthens me! In her I find strength and consolation. This Immaculate Heart is the channel by which God makes the multitude of His graces gush into my soul. Help me to be grateful to her and to correspond to such great mercies.”

And on December 10, 1925, Sister Lucia was favored with a visit from our Blessed Mother and the Child Jesus. First, the Child Jesus spoke,

“Have pity on the Heart of your Most Holy Mother. It is covered with the thorns with which ungrateful men pierce it at every moment and there is no one to remove them with an act of reparation.”

Immaculate Heart of Mary
Immaculate Heart of Mary, our Mother, Pray for us now and at the hour of our death. Amen.

Then, our Blessed Mother extended her hand in which she held her heart surrounded with thorns and said,

“Behold, my daughter, my heart encircled with thorns with which ungrateful men pierce me at every moment by their blasphemies and ingratitude. Do you at least try to console me and announce in my name that I promise to assist at the hour of death with the graces necessary for salvation all those who, on the first Saturday of five consecutive months confess, receive Holy Communion, recite the Rosary and keep me company for 15 minutes meditating on the mysteries of the Rosary with the intention of making reparation to me.”

On this her feast day, she is always especially generous to her true children, those who are consecrated to her Immaculate Heart. Ask her boldly for the graces you need to advance in her service! You will be amazed at her generosity! Here is a Litany I’ve had for many years; not sure where it came from, but it is lovely and I hope it will be of some benefit for you, too.

  • Note: Paul VI changed the date for this Feast day, but as traditional Catholics, we keep the traditional calendar in which her feast day is on the octave of the Assumption, as originally set by Pope Pius XII.

Fire in the House of God

St. Louis Grignion de Montfort’s writings incorporate some prophetic passages such as his refererences to the Apostles of the Latter Times. They are useful aids in living the total consecration to the Immaculate Heart of Mary in these difficult days. The following is an apt passage from St. Grignion de Montfort which resonates with us today.

The Power of Mary in the Latter Times

“But the power of Mary over all the devils will especially shine forth in the latter times, when Satan will lay his snares against her heel: that is to say, her humble slaves and her poor children, whom she will raise up to make war against him. They shall be little and poor in the world’s esteem . . . and persecuted as the heel is by other members of the body. But in return for this, they shall be rich in the grace of God, which Mary shall distribute to them abundantly.”

“they shall be ‘like sharp arrows in the hand of the powerful’ Mary to pierce her enemies.”That they may extinguish the fire in the House of God.”

Who shall these servants, slaves, and children of Mary be? The saint answers himself: “They shall be the ministers of the Lord who, like a burning fire, shall kindle the fire of divine love everywhere.” And “they shall be ‘like sharp arrows in the hand of the powerful’ Mary to pierce her enemies.”That they may extinguish the fire in the House of God.”

Remember, O Lord, Thy congregation: It is Thy Grace alone that must form this company. If man touches it first, nothing will be done. If he interferes with Thy work, he will spoil all, overturn all. Thy congregation: It is Thy work, great God. Do Thy work: do Thy all-divine work; collect, call, gather together Thy elect from all places over which Thou has domination and make of them a strong army to defend Thy heritage against Thy enemies.

Seest Thou, Lord, God of battles, seest Thou the … libertines, impious men are uniting against Thee every day – and so easily and promptly. … a breath of fame and earthly interest, a vile pleasure for which they long can, in a moment, unite them as one, … cover the earth and the sea with an innumerable multitude of the reprobate, who … are  united as one man, until death, to fight against Thee under the banner and the leadership of the demon.

And we, great God! Although there is so much glory and profit, so much sweetness and so many advantages to be gained by serving Thee, shall there be so few to take up Thy cause? Hardly any soldiers under Thy banner! Nary a St. Michael to proclaim among Thy brethren in zeal for Thy glory: Who is like unto God?

The Message of Fatima – 2015

Please note, this post has been updated since Father Gruner’s death.

The oldest of the shepherd children of Fatima, Lucia explained the message of Fatima to Father Fuentes years later:

Father, the Most Holy Virgin did not tell me that we are in the last times of the world, but She made me understand this for three reasons.”

“The first reason is because She told me that the devil is in the mood for engaging in a decisive battle against the Virgin. And a decisive battle is the final battle where one side will be victorious and the other side will suffer defeat. Also, from now on we must choose sides. Either we are for God or we are for the devil. There is no other possibility.

“The second reason is because She said to my cousins as well as to myself, that God is giving two last remedies to the world. These are the Holy Rosary and devotion to the Immaculate Heart of MaryThese are the last two remedies which signify that there will be no others.”

“The third reason is because in the plans of Divine Providence, God always, before He is about to chastise the world, exhausts all other remedies. Now, when He sees that the world pays no attention whatsoever, then as we say in our imperfect manner of speaking, He offers us with certain fear the last means of salvation, His Most Holy Mother. It is with certain fear because if you despise and repulse this ultimate means, we will not have any more forgiveness from Heaven, because we will have committed a sin which the Gospel calls the sin against the Holy Ghost. This sin consists of openly rejecting, with full knowledge and consent, the salvation which He offers. Let us remember that Jesus Christ is a very good Son and that He does not permit that we offend and despise His Most Holy Mother. … Our Lord Jesus Christ has always defended the honor of His Mother.”

“Look, Father, the Most Holy Virgin in these last times in which we live has given a new efficacy to the recitation of the Rosary, to such an extent that there is no problem, no matter how difficult it is, whether temporal or above all spiritual, in the personal life of each one of us, of our families, of the families of the world, or of the religious communities, or even of the life of peoples and nations, that cannot be solved by the Rosary. There is no problem, I tell you, no matter how difficult it is, that we cannot resolve by the prayer of the Holy Rosary. With the Holy Rosary we will save ourselves, we will sanctify ourselves, we will console Our Lord and obtain the salvation of many souls.”

“Finally, devotion to the Immaculate Heart of Mary, Our Most Holy Mother, consists in considering Her as the seat of mercy, of goodness and of pardon, and as the certain door by which we are to enter Heaven.”

The message of Fatima is then that we are now in a life or death struggle, even though most people are oblivious. As Sister Lucia warns us, “we must choose sides. Either we are for God or we are for the devil. There is no other possibility.Where do you stand?

The purpose of this blog is to call Catholics to return to Fatima. Re-examine the message given to us by the Blessed Virgin Mary. Remove the blinders that are making you think that Fatima was “a long time ago, and is no longer relevant”.

Fatima’s message is more relevant today than it ever was. When Pope John XXIII refused to release the message that Our Lady commanded be released in the year 1960, the world experienced a spiritual shock: the Vicar of Christ on earth refusing to obey the Mother of Christ. Never before in history has such a thing happened.

And thus began the Chastisement.

The initial chastisement was the result of the spiritual blindness which descended upon the pope and hierarchy following their willful disobedience. When one separates himself from God by mortal sins, the darkened reason is unable to discern the correct path and stumbles into error and folly. Vatican II and its poisonous fruits, which caused unprecedented abandonment of religious vocations and the loss of faith and Catholic identity of entire nations was the fruit of this spiritual ignorance which descended upon the Church.

When God chastens us, He is merciful, indeed, His mercy and His justice are inseparable. The initial chastisement of the catastrophic Second Vatican Council could have been mitigated. If only the Pope had seen the noxious results for what they were and repented, his repentance would have brought down God’s mercy.

But the hearts of the popes were hardened and they have persisted in their arrogant disobedience of Our Lord Jesus Christ and His Mother. The result has been an unmitigated disaster for the Catholic Faith. Sister Lucia of Fatima reminds us still, God’s own Most Holy Mother is the last means of salvation we are offered. Until Catholics return to the Immaculate Heart of Mary, with humility, repentance and obedience, the Chastisement will continue to unfold, bringing with it ever more severe spiritual desolation, a desolation which will soon reach proportions never before seen, with such physical calamities that those who survive them will envy the dead.

We know that in the end, her Immaculate Heart will triumph; the only question that remains is will we choose to be hers, will we take the steps necessary to be on the winning side?

What steps are called for today, at this late hour? What can we do here in the 21st century?

To begin with, at a very minimum, we must:

Consecrate ourselves immediately to the Immaculate Heart of Mary. No specific formula is required for this, nor is any priest required for this initial step. Just kneel down now and sign yourself with the Cross, begging the Blessed Virgin Mary in her perfect purity and fullness of grace to take you as her child and help you to turn from your sins and follow her commands, trusting her to lead you to perfect obedience to Our Lord Jesus Christ. Resolve to surrender your entire being, body and soul, mind and will, to her to do with as she wills.

  • Pray Our Lady’s Rosary every day, at least one third (5 decades), but all three if possible. Optimally, pray the rosary with your family or friends whenever possible.
  • Wear Our Lady’s Brown Scapular of Mount Carmel. If you were enrolled previously, you may simply begin wearing it, if not enrolled, a priest may enroll you. Information on this may be obtained from Father Gruner’s Fatima Center. Or contact me, evensong (at) returntofatima (dot) org.
  • Obtain St. Louis de Montfort’s or St. Maximilian Kolbe’s program for Total Consecration to the Immaculate Heart of Mary. Both can be found online. The true total consecration must be lived daily, indeed minute by minute. It is easy once you understand that it doesn’t depend on your effort, it depends on your constant trust in Mary, your Mother.
  • Avoid the Novus Ordo Mass and all sacraments using post-Vatican II ritual. The changes instituted by the Vatican II “reforms” are the fruits of an arrogant, disobedient faction of the true Church. Eschew all modernism and attend a true, traditional Mass such as Society of St. Pius X, Fraternal Society of St. Peter, or a traditional indult or Moto Proprio Mass.
  • Make Our Lady’s First Saturdays for at least five months in a row. Better, continue them in a spirit of reparation for all the Catholics who refuse to obey Our Lady.
  • Fulfill the duties of your state in life with humility and obedience, as a faithful child of the Immaculate Heart of Mary.

As you continue on this path, you will find many more ways to live more perfectly as a child of Mary.

John Vennari’s Catholic Family News and Michael Matt’s Remnant Newspaper are dependable sources for all things related to Fatima, true Catholic teaching and the errors of Vatican II.

If at all possible, get to know other true Catholics. and above all, spread the word!

It may be too late for us to stave off a coming physical chastisement of apocalyptic proportions. We have a president who seems intent on destroying our country in order to bring about a third world style marxist dictatorship, and we have a pope who seems determined to complete the destruction of the faith begun by Vatican II. It looks as though the defiance of Pope Bergoglio, in fact his utter disdain for the Immaculate Heart of Mary and her message, will bring about a much more severe chastisement than would have been possible before he took over.

All that is left is for us to draw close to the Immaculate Heart of the Mother of God and trust in her merciful love, which will never fail us. Let us strive to save our souls and all those souls who have been entrusted to us.

Fatima in Mary’s Words – 2014

This is a repost that seems appropriate for today, the 97th anniversary of Our Lady of Fatima’s last, but not final appearance at Fatima, Portugal.

Our Lady of Fatima, pray for us!
Our Lady of Fatima, pray for us!

May 13, 1917. Our Lady to the three shepherd children, “Are you willing to offer yourselves to God and bear all the sufferings He wills to send you as an act of reparation for the sins by which He is offended, and in supplication for the conversion of sinners?”

Francisco, Jacinta and Lucia answered, “Yes, we are willing!” Our Lady then told them, “Then you are going to have much to suffer, but the grace of God will be your comfort.”

June 13, 1917. Our Lady spoke to Lucia, the oldest of the children, “Jesus wishes to make use of you to serve as His instrument to make me known and loved. He wants to establish in the world devotion to my Immaculate Heart. To whoever embraces this devotion, I promise salvation; these souls shall be dear to God, as flowers placed by me to adorn His throne…my daughter…I shall never abandon you! My Immaculate Heart will be your refuge and the way which will lead you to God.”

“Say the Rosary, inserting between the mysteries the following, ‘O my Jesus, forgive us our sins, save us from the fires of Hell, lead all souls to Heaven, especially those most in need.’ “

July 13, 1917. Our Lady told the children, “I want you…to continue praying the Rosary every day in honor of Our Lady of the Rosary, in order to obtain peace for the world …because only she can help you! … Sacrifice yourselves for poor sinners and say often, especially when you make some sacrifice, ‘O Jesus, it is for love of Thee, for the conversion of sinners and in reparation for the sins against the Immaculate Heart of Mary.’ ”

At that same appearance, following the terrible vision of Hell, “You have seen Hell, where the souls of poor sinners go. To save them, God wishes to establish throughout the world devotion to my Immaculate Heart. If people do what I request, many souls will be saved and there will be peace… But if they do not stop offending God, another and worse war will break out in the reign of Pius XI. When you see a night illumined by an unknown light, know that it is the great sign that God gives you, that He is going to punish the world for its crimes by means of war, hunger, persecution of the Church and of the Holy Father.. To forestall this I shall come to ask for the Consecration of Russia to my Immaculate Heart and the Communion of Reparation on the First Saturdays.

“If they heed my requests, Russia will be converted, and there will be peace. If not, she will spread her errors throughout the world, promoting wars and persecution of the Church; the good will be martyred, the Holy Father will have much to suffer, various nations will be annihilated; in the end, my Immaculate Heart will triumph. The Holy Father will consecrate Russia to me, which will be converted, and some time of peace will be given to the world.”

August 19, 1917. This apparition was delayed due to the arrest of the children by the Masonic civil authorities. When she appeared, Our Lady urged the children, “Pray, pray very much and make sacrifices for sinners; for many souls go to Hell because there are none to make sacrifices and pray for them.”

September 13, 1917. “Continue to pray the Rosary every day… In the last month, in October, I shall perform a miracle so that all may believe in my apparitions.” In a personal message to the children, Our Lady assured them that God was pleased with their sacrifices.

October 13, 1917. On this visit, Our Lady identified herself as “Our Lady of the Rosary”, thus reinforcing yet again, how pleasing the devotion of the Rosary is to her. “Continue to say the Rosary every day … People must amend their lives and ask pardon for their sins. They must not offend Our Lord any more, for He is already too much offended.”

The promised miracle of the sun was witnessed that day by at least 70,000 people, many of whom were non-believers. Additionally, apparitions were seen by Lucia. To her, Our Lady appeared as Our Lady of the Rosary, as Our Lady of Sorrows and as Our Lady of Mount Carmel. Also, St. Joseph and the Child Jesus and Our Lord Jesus Christ appeared and blessed the world.

Those visions were messages as well, to those who are devoted to Fatima. They point us to St. Joseph as our powerful protector and the guardian of our faith. The Child Jesus appearing with St. Joseph and blessing us is specifically directed at families, which as we have seen, have been very much under satanic attack in the post-Fatima century. The blessings given by Jesus endorse the devotion to Fatima and strengthen it. The visions of Our Lady of the Rosary, Our Lady of Sorrows and Our Lady of Mount Carmel point the way to the recommended devotions, that is the Brown Scapular of Our Lady of Mount Carmel (and by inference the devotion of Total Consecration to the Immaculate Heart of Mary), and the devotion to the daily Rosary in reparation to the Sorrowful and Immaculate Heart of Mary.

Add to these devotions the First Saturdays of Communion of Reparation and you have essentially the complete program of Fatima. This is the message of Fatima in Our Lady’s own words. This is the message that has been ignored. That it is ignored by the world is not surprising, but that it has been ignored by the Church is beyond disappointing.

Pope after Pope spoke pious words and performed “almost, but not quite” consecrations, never actually obeying the Mother of God. Well-meaning Catholics point out the numerous instances where Pope Pius XII and John Paul II appeared to be obediently devoted to Our Lady of Fatima, but the point is that they never actually did what was requested. Often, John Paul II is hailed as the Marian Pope, yet when he recorded himself praying the Rosary, he omitted the Fatima Decade Prayer requested by Our Lady. In addition, he promoted an entirely new set of Mysteries which were not requested by Our Lady. Would a real servant of Mary refuse to give Our Lady what she has requested while at the same time inserting what was not asked for? What do you think?

The hierarchy of the Church has never promoted the devotion to the Immaculate Heart of Mary throughout the entire Church as requested by Our Lady, that is, First Saturdays of Reparation, Total Consecration to the Immaculate Heart of Mary, daily Rosary, especially the Family Rosary. To assert that the Consecration of Russia has been done is to make Our Lady a liar. Obviously Russia has spread her errors throughout the world and it is not yet ended. Indeed, the worst of the Chastisement may yet be in store for us, as Vatican II continues to infect and erode the Church.

The time is far advanced and yet we still may turn the tide. If only people could heed her message and accept Our Lady’s demands in all humility and obedience. Remember that Our Lady’s words to Lucia are meant for us as well,

“Jesus wishes to make use of you to serve as His instrument to make me known and loved.

Although the institutional Church delays implementing her requests, we her faithful children should use every possible means to live our devotion to our Queen and Mother and to spread that devotion insofar as we are able.
